I'm starting this thread for the brilliant HILTON MILLENIUM hotel on the Chao Phyra. For me, this is the the "just right" hotel for me. Clean, less cost than the Conrad, very good food, and fantastic service, for an individual male travelling alone.

For girls, I saw some babes getting their IDs back in the morning when I was getting change for tips on the 1st Floor. Therefore, they are not girl friendly, however they are just being secure.

Hotel is next to the Pennisula and they have their own riverboat shuttle that runs every 15 - 20 minutes. It's a faster boat and better (rather than that "slow thing" The Marriot uses). Room service is a great value too.

Taxis still have a hard time finding the place because it's new, however the cheapest and most efficent way to get there from the "current" airport is:

- AIRPORT BUS A-1 for 100 baht to Sala Daeng BTS Skytrain (i.e.: Patpong). You can also take it to Ratchadamri BTS Skytrain if you want (the stop before).
- Cross the street behind the bus stop at Sala Daeng to the escalator.
- Buy a 100 baht all-day pass and take the BTS to the last stop, Saphan Taksin BTS Skytrain station. Then after you check in, you have unlimited BTS for your special massage and drink run later. I usually go right to Sanzanka.
- Walk down the stairs to the river and go left where there is a sign that mentions Marriot, Oriental, Pennisula waterboat shuttles. The Hilton isn't on the sign, but that's where it stops.
- A good guy may come out of the boat and carry your suitcase to the boat and again to the hotel stairs. Tip him 40 - 50 baht (if you want).

Viola, you're in.

Leaving the hotel cheapest and most efficient is to avoid the Airport Bus as it forks away from Ratchadamri BTS Skytrain and takes another road from Sala Daeng, it's simply too hot and congested outside to wait for it. Instead take the BTS to Mo Chit and get a taxi to the airport which will cost 101 baht (most likely he will go under the upper express highway and avoid the tolls). Give him a good tip 40 - 50 baht. Check in at airport and fly away to return again.

For the life of me, I don't know why Saphan Taksin BTS Skytrain station doesn't have an escalator. It's also a half of a train station and this was due to the Asian financial crisis back in '97. There's still an untracked bridge that goes across the river. Looks nice, but unused for a decade now. If it ever gets the extension, I wonder where the other half of Saphan Taksin BTS will be as it will have to take up part of the highway?

With the new airport coming, everything changes. But you have my best wishes and best posts coming for the new way to get to and from.

Gyaos.

You say they are not girl friendly because they take ID's. But I wonder, do they charge a joiner fee?

Also, what is the price range on the rooms?

Why not get a taxi at the riverboat shuttle stop across the river from Hotel? Is it available?

Would appreciate more information on hotel, such as rooms, cost, services, and amenities. Overall experience and value. Does the river taxi service operate 24 hours. Did you bring a guest to your room? If so what was the routine?

I used to love the old Bangkok Hilton. Many good memories.

Gyaos thanks for the info.

The Hilton Millenium is actually the only hotel by the river that has a check-in lounge at the River City Comples....you can check-in there and wait for the shuttle service (free) of the hotel (crossing the river every 5 minutes)
Rooms are generous, very stylish decorations, all riverview...
Staff is excellent (note Ms Nuna of the guest relation department...a real candy!)....
The 360 lounge on top of the building is second only to The Dome in terms of view (excellent if you want to impress visitors, ladies....) and the swimming pool (infinity with the river) is outstanding....
Overall, a great hotel for in the range of 100US$ per nite....

"I don't knoooooooooow"! As the girl I was with at Macau Supreme Sauna said.

Big recommendations for Hilton Millenium for mongers, like me! Big recommendations using Bus A-1 -> Sala Daeng BTS -> Saphan Taksin Boat -> to check in -> bed. Heaven!
