Staying now at the AETAS Bangkok on Soi Ruam Rudee. It's directly across from the Conrad, I do like this area. There is an insane deal right now on Agoda and Wotif that puts this hotel at 2000 baht per night. It's about on par with Grand Millenium. Rate includes free wifi but no breakfast.

Service here is fantastic, hotel is still new. Good location as Ruam Rudee can lead to Rama IV and onto Sukhumvit. There is a tuk tuk that can either take you to the BTS at Phloenchit or to the MRT at Lumphini. Haven't used it but it's convenient to be able to go to either without being at Asoke.

The room is 35 sqm with a nice bathroom that has quality fixtures. There is a Sony flatpanel TV, VOIP phone from Cisco, workstation desk, etc. Towels are nice and fluffy, bathrobes fluffy, slippers comfy.

I don't know if it's guest friendly as my gf is staying here with me. I would guess so though, nobody seems to care or monitor when I come in.

This rate of 2000 baht per night is a fantastic value, don't hesitate...

Court orders 5-star hotel pulled down

Aetas Bangkok illegally built in Soi Ruam Rudi

City authorities will move to demolish the Aetas Bangkok Hotel in Soi Ruam Rudi if the hotel operator ignores an order from the Administrative Court that the building is illegal.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Thirachon Manomaipibul yesterday said he had instructed the director of the Pathumwan district office to order the owners of the hotel to pull it down as soon as the office receives an order from the Administrative Court.

The court on Thursday ordered the Bangkok governor and the director of the Pathumwan district office to enforce compliance with the law within 60 days.

On Sept 17, 2008, residents in Soi Ruam Rudi on Phloenchit Road filed a complaint with the court against the Bangkok governor and the director of Pathumwan district office. Apirak Kosayodhin was the Bangkok governor at the time.

The complainants accused Mr Apirak and the head of the district office at the time of issuing a certificate which the residents said exaggerated the width of the road in the soi to build a large building in violation of the law.

The law prohibits construction of tall buildings on roads measuring less than 10 metres wide. The court ruled Soi Ruam Rudi is less than 10 metres wide.

badfishlbc has been a member since 2003 - doubtful that he did anything else but share his experiences and impressions.

Sounded like a great deal, though.

It's a great deal for that type of hotel...it offers good deals b/c the news lately? The location is not bad either.

Let wait and see how long they take to hotel down.....

No I'm not affiliated with the hotel at all.

I had a good long stay at the Aetas Residence this time around. It's the building next to the hotel but with more of a serviced apartment feel. There is a washer dryer and the bathroom is laid out differently.

The internet I measured at 20mb down, 10mb up, which is pretty fast... I booked with Tim and got a decent discount, I'd use his services anytime. The hotel is guest friendly, staff not as attentive as at the hotel but I'm fine with that. One room I stayed at had a fruit fly problem, they were just constantly in the room. On my return, I got a different room and it was perfect.

The best part about the hotel is the location. Ruam Rudee is a really cool Soi to be on. Ruam Rudee Village has good restaurants like Witch's, Coffee Beans by Dao, and a few others. Across is that french joint Lyon which is OK albeit a bit steep. Down near the corner is Hyde and Seek which is an up and coming bar. Down Soi 1 is a great Thai restaurant called Baan Glom Gik (belongs to a comedian). M Room, fantastic massage with pretties, is on Soi 2.

Drawbacks is it can be a bit of a walk to the BTS. The nearest 7-11 is a walk. There's not much to do in the morning. There aren't many choices in food if you don't want to be in a sit down joint.

In the end, I would stay here again.

I agree with the above review. Would prefer less people to know about it, as I found the prices cheap for the quality of the Hotel. I actually stayed at the residences, No brainer
