Just completed a few days at the Oriental Residence on Wireless Rd. It's a newish 5* hotel that can be had for about $140/night right now. Location wise, it's super quiet here at night. I have a room with the park view and you can hear sounds of wildlife at night. Doesn't feel like you're in the heart of Bangkok so much. The room itself is nice, it's got a kitchenette, large bathroom, large couch and comfy bed. It's of a good size for the executive deluxe room. The desk area actually folds out from a wall furnishing and you sit on the bed to work on your computer. Internet here is fast and free, I measured 15mb down and 10mb up. The large bathroom has both a tub and a rainfall shower. All quite classy and works well but doesn't quite knock you over with elegance. The staff here are good but considering it's 5* it's not up to par if you are a 5* service snob. The elevator requires a key card. There are about 3 lifts for the hotel side of the residence. There is good parking underneath the building. The theme color in the lobby is an ivory white. The TV system doesn't seem to have a lot of channels but it's adequate and the channels are clear. Location wise, coming from Sukhumvit, it's on the right hand side just after you pass The Conrad (which will be on your left). It's quite easy to miss if you're looking for it for the first time, there is a smallish sign out front but the Mandopop bar that sits out front seems to be easier to spot. It's about a 5 minute walk to the Ploenchit station but the sidewalks here are wide and safe. Getting around town it's easy to catch cabs here and there are backroads that are easily accessible to go to areas like Thonglor and Ratchada. There is a 7-11 across the street as well as the All Seasons Place with some restaurants. It is girl friendly, no problems with girls whatsoever. Overall a very nice stay but my main gripe is that there is a lack of excitement in the area. You will be hating this area if there is any protesting going on as well. But you'll need to hop in a cab or jump on the skytrain if you want any variety in food and activities. Stay here if you want to be in the middle of the city but don't want to feel all the hustle and bustle.

I don't think so unless you sit facing the trunk of your car.

Ok, let me clarify. The hotel is on Wireless Road. As you are coming down wireless road from Sukhumvit toward the hotel, Conrad will be on your left, Oriental Residence on the right.

Dr. Love is right. Sukhumvit continues into Phloen Chit Road. So you have to turn left onto Wireless Road from Phloen Chit Road. No confusion there.
