Well this iconic hotel is a real mixed bag, and not for long. Thai people who buy their membership are being told to hold off, ownership/ locationnwill chance next year. As far as my stay, I had a different setup. I go with Saucy Tim as my agent, he's the best by far, but in researching I found 4S on Latestays for 3995, no brk/wifi though. Still a hell of a price and Id wanted to add it to my list of BKK 5* hotels. They gave me 650 which is absolutely the longest walk anyone could make from the elevator, a common problem when you are on a deep discount and I can tolerate the slight. What I didn't get was after the 1st nite no turndown service, no treat on the pillow, no newspaper on the door knob after requesting and receiving 1st day, no staff ever addressed me by name except after I gave them my Rm #, etc. In other words, this is a very good 4* with 5* public areas, restos, and amenities like pool, gym, barber shop, etc. I liked the feel of the place given it's scale, I generally prefer smaller scale hotels so that was a surprise. Lots of staff With good English, which is a change from the boutique "5*" I've been trying like Sivatel and Hansar. I'd place this above Conrad and below JWM It's certainly unlike any other 4S in the world, it is a comfortable anomaly that is a good value at 1/2 price

In your case, the deep discount may be known to you as a customer. ***It may also be unknown to unsuspecting customers who book their travel at a tour agency. *** Those customers paid full price; but the dishonest tour agency or some crooked tour industry middleman took most of the money and got the customers a deeply discounted room at the hotel. Thus travelers are sometimes surprised at the crummy room and lousy service. In your case, the hotel staff was foolish to treat you shabbily just because you stayed at a discounted room. If a hotel guest stayed in a deeply discounted room, it does not mean that he has no money. Bill Gates flew on economy seats on airlines when he had a fortune and could literally afford to buy the whole jetliner plane if he wanted to. Warren Buffet chose to drive a used car for years.
