I recently stayed at the Majestic and Admiral Suites and at the Landmark Hotel. They are all suitable accommodations but they do differ in certain areas. Majestic Suites: Great location right off Nana Plaza on Sukhumvit. The room was very clean and quiet and the soundproofing worked well even though it faced Sukhumvit. There was an electronic in-room safe but it required a special key which would force one to hide if a TG stayed over. Plus: The price of 1300 B w/ tax and breakfast. Minus: No pool or gym and rather small establishment if you like to relax around the hotel. Can't rate it for girlfriendliness as I didn't have one over. Others seem to have no problem. Admiral Suites: Very new establishment on Soi 22. The Superior rooms are very large and spotless with hardwood floors and a kingsize bed in a huge livingroom. Also come with kitchen. Has a huge in-room safe and VCD player/stereo. No problem bringing in the TG w/o a fee. Plus: The price of 1600 B although you can get it for 1500 on the net. Super clean. There is a small fitness centre in the hotel but you also get free membership to the nearby Centre point fitness centre which is a great place to workout. There is no breakfast but the kitchen allows one to save some money on meals. Also has in suite hi-speed net hookup. The bed was very comfortable. Minus: The location is about a 10 minute walk to Sukhumvit but it does allow one to visit the nice ladies at Soi 22 plaza and sample their wares. Landmark Hotel: A 5 star hotel on Sukhumvit. First rate. No complaints whatsover and very girlfriendly regardless of what others have written. Not even a stare by the staff although one should book double if you want to share the breakfast buffet. Plus: So many. The great separate glass/marbel shower with the double nozzles allowed me some shower fun with the TG. The fitness facility has to be the best in Bangkok. All the machines one wants plus steam and sauna rooms and a multitude of fitness classes. The location is great on Sukhumvit. The breakfast buffet was one of the finest I have had. Fresh croissants are baked every 30 minutes! The staff were all very friendly and the room was always kept spotless with twice daily cleanups. Hi speed internet available in-room also. The girls loved the place and the shy ones appreciated and enjoyed putting on the robes provided. Minus: A bit expensive at US $80 (w/taxes and buffet breakfast included) compared to the other two hotels but it was worth it. If you can afford it go to the Landmark but if price is an issue go to the Admiral Suites. I have tried many hotels in Bangkok and I think that these two are some of the best especially if you don't want to miss your workouts while holidaying.

Regarding Admiral Suites, exactly how much past Imperial Queens Park hotel is it down Soi 22? Are you sure you got the Superior room, or maybe did they upgrade you for free to a Deluxe room? I am thinking about getting the Deluxe room, but am now wondering if I really need it. Any recommendations about which rooms are quietest? Is the A/C good enough to cool the room?

I just a got a quote for a room at the Admiral with or without American Breakfast included. The room is 2000 baht more per month with the breakfast included. That's a pretty good price, but just want to make sure that the food is decent. Any comments?

Yes, I am sure I got the Superior room. The deluxe one comes with a bigger bedroom and a kitchen table which mine did not have. I think that unless you are there very long term, the Superior is great. The AC in all the hotels I have stayed at worked perfectly and if anything was at times too cold. You cannot go wrong staying at the Admiral. I was not aware that you could get breakfast at the Admiral Suites as I don't believe they have a cafeteria. I would be curious to find out where you would eat. The Admiral is about 75 m further down on the Soi from Queen's Park on the opposite side of the road.

Thanks Mobius. Maybe they added a cafe in the building or next door since you were there. I am planning to stay a month, so not sure which room I want (33,000 vs 38,000 baht per month w/o ABF). One other thing, you mentioned the Centre Point fitness center. Is that really the name of it, or could it be the Capital Club near President Park (mangaged by the same company). The reason I ask is that when I did a search on Centre Point, the closest thing I found was on Soi 10. Thanks again for the info.

Mobius, you said the inroom safe at Admiral is huge. Do you think it would accomodate a smallish laptop like, say, a 12 inch Apple Powerbook. Also checked their site some time ago, they got a weekly rate of 8,800 B for the superior room. That sounds sweeeeet.

I was asked by reservation dept. @ Admiral Suites to fax Credit Card info. to reserve room, otherwise will be cxl'd. Is this standard procedure? I get worried sending this type of info, unless it's over a secure website/line. Anyone with previous experience, plaese help. I'm just trying to be cautious, or, am I over-reacting here?

A fax is pretty secure, as along as it's ACTUALLY their number. It's probably published on their website. Faxing a credit card to hold a reservation is quite common, and if it's a CREDIT (not DEBIT) card, you're protected mostly anyway. I say no worries... haam sup
