I will be coming to Bangkok at the end of May 2002 and have booked to stay at Asia Hotel Bangkok . Anybody have any experience (good and bad) on this hotel ? What is the current room rate (single and double) per night ? Is the hotel 'guest-friendly' or do I have to pay a 'surcharge' for bringing any BGs/TGs to my room ?
Is there any MPs or traditional massage parlours within a half-hour to three-quarter hour walking distance ? How about the nearest Skytrain station and nearby shopping centres ?

I have stayed at the Bangkok Asia a total of three time now, however, not for a couple of year. To answer your questions, no problems getting a girl in but they have to leave their ID at the desk, there is a guard on the lifts from around 7pm, no-one during the day.
The is a good trad/oily MP just outside the hotel if you use the side entrance, the one by the Crystal Bar and there is one in the hotel but the girls will ask 5KBaht for a short time, also there is a Barbars shop with a massage available.
Don't know if he is still there but there was a guy who used to sing in the bar and did excellent Elvis impressions if you are into that kind of thing.
Staff are always courteous, the food in the TIvoli Coffe shop leaves a little to be desired but all the other restuarants are excellent.
The nearest Skytrain station is just outside the front door and to the left about 25m always plenty of Tuk Tuks about.

Have not stayed there recently, years ago the Joiners fee was 500B, I believe it has gone up since to 600B, at eleven pm the walk of shame could be a long queue at reception.
Last time I stayed there, booked a double and checked in with then LTGF, she and me still had a lot of hassle, that sort of hotel is highly unlikely to change its policies.

I think a way arround this may be the give the concierge guy/bell boy a handsum tip upon arrival ( 500 BT) and subsequently ask him to arrange for a lady to be called to the room. No running arround to ask girls in the nearest parlours for LT, no Walk of shame etc.

Awful, Avoid. Mosquitoes in the rooms. Run down, BG unfriendly, Lobby crawling with towelheads. Upon check out, at 4 am, they accused me of stealing one of their ratty worn-out towels. Only advantage is location on Sky Train,

I stayed there last summer.
Good point: Decent rooms for the price, good array of compliments if you do internet booking, easy access to the sky train (connected to hotel) and siam square and pantip, decent food and reletifvely quiet.
The bad: Has big hotel amience without the big hotel luxury; not especially friendly receptionists (not important to me but to some), dull views from room, lots of pointless, opressive space in the lobby.
neutrall; two pools, both rather shallow but oen is nicely designed.
