Hey guys,

Just after some advice.

I have just booked a holiday to thailand for 3 weeks in november.

I'm from the UK, and I have some questions, if any of you could kindly help.

I have booked my return flights and 3 nights accomodation in Bangkok (in the Baiyoke Sky Hotel), but nothing else so far.

I intend to stay in bangkok for 4-5 days, pattaya for 1 week +, and koi samui 3-4 days, and go to phuket too, (although this isn't set in stone), I will also fly out of bangkok.

So here is my question:

Despite November being peak season, the dates I will be staying are from the 5th, to the 25th of November in Thailand, I didn't want to book a package holiday, because I wanted to have some freedom, so I could move about.

My only concern was places to stay, I have spoken to people who have convinced me that I don't need to book anymore accomodation, as I will be able to find it all when I arrive.

A friend told me, to book the first couple of nights in Bangkok, which I have done, and book my stay in Koi Samui, as it gets very busy, and accomodation gets booked up quick, which is something I am also considering

Another friend told me to take the risk if I wanted too, but only if I was cool with having very basic bed and fan room, as everything else would prob be booked, but don't want to do that either.

So the question is lol, is it a safe bet to not book anything else, will there be plenty of good places to stay when I arrive, worth taking th chance?

(Please Note: I am not a Backpacker, i'm just staying in Thailand for 3 weeks as a holiday, and happy to spend reasonable prices for places to stay, would like good facillties where I stay, and be centrally located is very important too.)

I guess i'm kind of worried that I will go out there, and decent, central and well facilitated accomodation will all be booked up, so i'm un-sure how much to book before I go.

But at the same time I don't want to book everything and restrict myself, as I would like to move around as I please.

so if u guys wouldn't mind helping me out, should I book more/should I not?

All advices please

Regards

You should be ok. Samui can be tough at times for some properties. But you can arrange everything here once you get to BKK.

Yeah, book here is OK and you can shop around. You can also use the advantage of the last minute discounted websites for accommodation once here and you know where and what you want to do.

First few nights booked will give you the safety net, then go for it, be a devil. If everything is booked, you can always stay at the 'no sex tourist hotel' I am sure they will have a room or 2.

Samui can be very busy though, so unless you know where you want to stay there now, book it as soon as you arrive. Do some research on the net re samui, you may find somewhere nice you like now to book.

It is possible to book all of your accommodation b4 you arrive, when you get to your destination and you change your mind on your pre-booked accom. then cancel it, but check with your hotel with their cancellation fees as they will need a min. notice b4 they start charging cancellation fees, eg. 24 hr, 48 hr or 72 hr notice, but up to you.

Would it be much more hassle free, for me to just book as much as I can before I go, i'm only going for 3 weeks I don't want to spend to much time looking for places to stay all the time.

It would be different if I was travelling for 3 months, and look to budget to the extreme, but i'm not, a big concern for me, it spending too much time looking for places to stay rather than enjoying my time.

My only concern with pre-booking everything was, I didn't want to be tied down to stay in any one place, i.e (bangkok/pattaya) wherever, for to long, and want freedom to move about bangkok and the ilands as I please, but not at the expense of hassle.

I mean 3 weeks is a very short space of time, in the LOS, and I want to be enjoying it.

What I might do, and tell me what you think of this idea guys is that, now that I have booked accomodation in bangkok for 3 nights, I might book 3 night in pattaya and 3 in koi samui, all pre-booked.

so that when I arrive in these places I have nice central accomodation to stay in, and then I can look into other different accomodation when I arrive in these places.

As 3 days should be enough, to either extend my time at these hotels, or find better more suitable places elsewhere within the same town.

But at least it means I will be settled when I arrive and then can look for other stuff, what do you guys think of this idea???

Once again advices please

Or maybe I should just book the whole lot, before I go, to avoid hassle, I really don't wanna be spending time in the hot sun looking round at places.

Maybe in a couple of years, when I go to LOS for 3-4 months, but i'm not sure about doing it on a holiday.

But surely if I book centrally located/well facillitaed accomodation, with shower/bath/fan/ and most important in room safe I can't go wrong.

I could well find cheaper accomodation out there but that would happen anyway.

really very un-sure as wat to do

The point the bros mean is as you are coming for three weeks first time what do you know is gonna happen.
Ya don;t, maybe you cannot get your butt out of Bangkok who knows, who knows.

Last trip we went to chaam, hue hin for a change I just looked on the web found a resonable hotel and booked
a few days in advance. When we arrived the room was ready, in Pattaya there are many hotels recommended on this forum, pick one send an e-mail when you think you will come if you are worried book a few days
you are the customer you can always extend or cut short as you wish just plan a few days out front and otherwise enjoy like only a newbie can

Just leave it with 3 nights booked as the guy's say in LOS to much planning is not a good idea.

It only takes a couple of min's to book a hotel and transport from one of the many agents that are around.
You can also use the internet cafe's to brows/book while you have a drink and a snack. So your not going to waste time draging round hotels and you stay flexable.
