You can open new threads, but you can post different opinions within the same thread. He wanted budget hotels, that will rule out Swiss Grotino, at 1800 bhat/night not including breakfast. He wanted something near Nana, that will rule out our new wonderful Town Lodge, at the end of Soi 18 is one hour walk to anything. So as much as I would like to help memebers on this BB make a bhat or two, their locations and prices do not represent value in my mind. For under 1000 bhat, it is still the Manhattan hotel, with possibility to go for Majestic Suites (at 1200 bhat/night single but it is pushing it over 1000). Small places that are 30 minutes or 1 hour away from Nana and/or Soi 33, at "bargin" prices are not a big value or deal. Its all about location.

OK, best budget near Nana that I know of are :
A) Holiday Inn Palace about 100 meters down Soi 3. So within spitting distance of NEP. Price is 600 baht per night and the rooms are big. The only problem with this hotel is that is was built before the Vietnam War. And since then the rooms were never updated. So when you breath inside the room pieces of wallpaper could come of the wall.
So I guess not many of you will make a run for this hotel.
B) Street One Lodge maybe 200 - 300 meters down Soi 1. This is also 600 Baht. The rooms are fairly small but nice and clean. What makes this hotel of interest to some, is that all rooms are build ajoining. So if you desire more space you can rent the room next to you and open the door inbetween. This could be what you want when you stay there with a friend or want to give a party. So for 1200 Baht you have a 2 room suite with double of everything (towels, TV, beds).
Both hotels don't have breakfast.
C) Scobie mentioned a 550 baht hotel in Soi 18 in the Nana thread, but he did not wanted to name names for some reason. Could be of interest if we knew it realy existed and what its features are.
