Joybkk, I didn't think a hotel could rent a "room" without a "window"... Am I missing something? All the hotels you stay in seem to be missing them.... Is "window" a euphemism for something else, like a 42" plasma or an old fashioned bidet?

Don't know what the law is in LOS, but in Singapore, the hotel where I sometimes stay charges S$5 extra for a 'window', which on one occasion turned out to be about 10x30 cm, and located high on the wall over the bed, did not open, and was right in front of the florescent light outside the room. No curtain, very hard to sleep... I have learned how to reserve a better room there, but Internet booking newbies get the shaft! HS

There are some advantages to a hotel room without a window in that part of BKK. It is likely to be a lot quieter than many rooms that have windows. It is also likely to be more comfortable, since there will no cooling loss or solar heat gain through a window that requires the A/C to run more often (which in many cases is also a significant source of noise).

I found that a windowless room is very annoying during raining season. Since I had no idea how hard raining outside, I often canceled my trip to outside or gone back to room to change shoes and cloth after I see the weather at the lobby. It may be just me but sometimes I felt like staying in a fancy jail.

Valetta, "rural thailand"? No doubt. But I thought we were talking about Soi 8, Sukhumvit. Am I mistaken? I remember that some of the soviet union built hotels in rural Vietnam (between Hue and Hoi Ann) were so basic that the water would run down the naked concrete walls at night in rivers of sweat trickles. And some of those rooms did not have a window, admittedly. But I have never stayed in a hotel in BKK that did not have one. And I am always annoying my TG for the night by insisting on keeping the drapes open, as I like to know whether the sun has risen or not. We usually compromise on a crack, or two, give or take.

I recently stayed at On8 with my Thai wife and I must say that the room we got was extremely small. The bed was literally 3 and a half feet from the front door (I measured it) and there just wasn't enough room to put anything. We also had a windowless room and I found that very disorienting because I had no idea if it was daytime when I woke up. Having said that it is a very trendy place and a lot of effort has gone into making it nicer than average due to the crazy shape of the building. I would recommend it for one person (and whomever he picks up) as a one-night thing or for somewhere to stay while passing through. Not the place to stay for 4 nights with your wife and her incredible collection of shit!
