ktmdude Good info' - I got a reply from the "cheapest" agent and they wanted all money up front. Not prepared to do this as i often take days out for trips and don't want to end up paying for nights I don't stay at the hotel. Ah well back to the good old President Park Appts

Yep Guys So to keep my flexibility I only book and pay for the first 2 nights. If I want to extend my stay, Iwill try to get the same internet price at the desk. If not possible I just go on line and book again. Dave

I had a very BAD experience when I stayed at the Asia Hotel for 10 nights in May '02.I booked thro' the internet and was charged a certain rate (without breakfast). Later I found out that I can get a cheaper with daily buffet breakfast thrown in if I book thro' an agent at another hotel. But I couldn't check out and then stay at the same hotel (Asia Hotel) at a cheaper rate as they already have my 'record' (i.e. the 'higher' rate charged to me via internet booking). So my advice to everybody is NOT to check into your desired hotel upon arriving in Bangkok. Try to book the same hotel thro' an agent stationed at ANOTHER hotel. Then you will be quoted a much cheaper rate, compared to your 'walk-in' rate.

I booked a hotel for one day thru a travel agent and when I told them I was going to shop around before deciding on additional days the price dropped about 200B per day. What you don't want to do is book a lot of days at a hotel you don't know and pay in advance. If they don't have your money then you are free to move.

I dropped by at Asia Hotel this morning and asked for their room rate. I was quoted 1,800B for a single/double room WITHOUT breakfast.I told them that I was charged a much lower rate (approx. 1,283B in May). They checked my name on their computer system and told me that they are prepared top charge me the same rate again if I book thro' the internet. So, there you have it. It's much cheaper if you book any hotel thro' the internet rather then a 'walk-in rate'. As I have mentioned before, it's even cheaper if you book thro' a travel agent once you have landed in Thailand.

Whenever you walk-in to any hotel they will hit you with the rack rate. You could ask for a discount, but you will most probably get 5-10% off. The best way is to book via the internet, shop around, some companies get better deals than others or give better deals than others OR head to a travel agent and get a hotel voucher. For example the travel agent gets me a room at the Zenith for 1,600 B whilst, the walk-in price is 2,400 B. Of course, don't bother staying there, since it has been reported to be guest unfriendly.

Good advice about the internet booking but when you walk in and you are looking to book for more then 1 or 2 nights and the clerk at the counter offers you a small discount ask to speak to the manager. Lets say the hotel has a 3000baht rack rate offer a 1000 if your in the slow season the manager may take you up on it. When I go to buy a car, I always tell the salesman. When I go home at the end of the day I will driving my new car. Give me your best price. Amazing what deals I've gotton. Do the same thing with hotel manager. If your a long stay guest 7++ days. You will be surprized at the rates you will be quoted.
