vertigo: I'd still advice you to bring your own laptop. The internet connections are not that fast. Most cafe's are running dial-up connections and their computer sucks. Out dated hardware and software. Been to a couple that did not even had ms word or excell on the computer. I find that it's very handy to check from my room even if it's a little slower because i can do so at my own convenience with my own machine. but .... then again, I do so for work. Enjoy your trip.

vertigo: I would not worry about the safety of your laptop. In my opinion is it safe. I've never had my laptop stolen, let alone even touched by the maid or any other hotel staff. And I leave it out in plan site on the desk. A couple time my business associates and I have left 4 computers networked in the room and no problems. Like you said, there are no absolutes, but you should feel confident that it is safe from being stolen. Now ... having beer or drinks spilled on it while you are back in your hotel room with your female friend is up to you!! ha ha ha ha ha!! Oh ... and don't ever assume that the TG's don't know how to navigate the computer. So .. if you don't want her surfin' on your computer, then screen lock it while you are away. ha ha ha ha!!! But ... on a side note, the TG's like to play video games and listen to music. So .. if you have any MP3's, it's cool to play them while you are in the room.

vertigo: I've never had any problems with leaving items out in my hotel room. Call me nieve, but I figure anything I leave out should be replaceable. The two hotel's that I mostly stay at are the Landmark and Novotel Lotus. I've left digital camera's, laptops, even spair money laying arond and never have had them touched. I would not suggest leaving too much money around though!! Might be too tempting for them!! ha ha ha ha!! But ... at both hotels, I've left a tip for the maid on the counter between next to the bed only to find it still there when I come back into the room. I guess they were not sure, so they did not take it!! So .. now i leave the tip on the bed!! ha ha ha ha!!! But ... if you are worried, you can lock your camera in the hotel safe. Eventhough I know, hotel safes are not safest, I think it's safe enough!! ha ha ha ha!! I've had many freinds stay at the Grand President and they have never had any theft or problems. I think you will have more problemds getting a female to allow you to take her picture then having your camera stolen. ha ha ha ha!!!
