If The Federal is a "Motel 6" then The Nana Hotel is a skid row flophouse.

I'm not a big fan of The Federal, but I've seen a lot worst, especially some of those "British Pub/Guest House" type places down in Pattaya. Thought I would try something difference one trip and checked into The Lord Nelson. Checked out the next morning. What a pit.
Of the popular hotels in Bangkok, The Nana is the worst I've personally seen. Makes The Federal look like The Landmark.

SOME of us have a fondness for the Federal, which transcends the decor. It has a glorious history, if you were around in earlier times.
However, I don't want to put too fine a point on it: I know a guy who likes the Sukhumvit Crown 29, where the current resident cockroaches have the same last names as those who lived there in the early '60s...
Personally, I like the Nana (ban phak khon chara), although it has grown FAR too expensive for it's state of decay. It's a sight/sound/smell thing, I guess. Brings me back to some of the happiest days spent in BKK.
In the end, it's only the newbies who worry about such things. Just let yourself sink to the lowest tolerable level, and enjoy the fruits that are so abundantly proximal.
