ok sorry, it's another huge hotel... but I just remembered I found the garden and pool area quite nice (maybe even slightly romantic???) in The Hilton.

Plus it has that "fertility shrine" thing in the gardens which is kinda romantic.
(well if you like 3 foot wooden models of penises painted in garish colours that is .)

 I liked it !

I think Yogi bear is around some where in the forum ... seriously!! ha ha ha!!

Anyways, since it's your honeymoon, I'd suggest staying at the The Sukhothai Hotel or the The Oriental Hotel. Yes, I realize that the rooms will cost more, but the atmosphere will more then make up for the higher room charge.

Brothers.... I am safely at home again... and want to thank all of u for the support given to me.
I have had a great time... really something to remember for the rest of my life!!!
May be you are not interested so much about details of my love story, but I want to share at least some useful informations on the forum.
I was in Bkk for 4 days, and stayed at Pathumwan Princess (close to MBK), where I booked a superior room and was upgraded to suite room (Sandiegon... u will always be my tutor.... thanks so much!!!!) and the night rate was around USD 60.
The Hotel is pretty fine, nice pool, great restaurants... I've not seen any action inside, and I think that it is not so girl friendly, due to the security service is serious and discrete.
Having my gf with me, I have had no troubles at all.
Then I went to Pattaya, and I stayed at Woodland resort: nice and cheap hotel! I paid about 40USD, the room was clean, the swimming pool was nice. I suppose that this hotel should be enough girl friendly... but I am not so really sure.

So, thank you again for support..and now I am waiting for my next trip

See u!
Bubu

Thanks for the mini-FR bubu!  I can assure anyone who's curious that the Woodlands Hotel & Resort was 100% girl friendly when I was there.  They did not even ask for ID.  That might be a good or bad thing to some people, so be warned if you were expecting more protection.

Found this old thread and felt this was the appropriate spot to put my question.

Hey bros, I have a situation I need some help on. A very good friend of mine is getting married next month and is going to Thailand for his honeymoon. He asked me for some recommendations for hotels while he and his future wife are in Bkk. As I have never really researched hotels for honeymoon purposes, I am not quite sure what would be the best options. He plans on staying in Bkk for about 3 or 4 days before moving on to other destinations in the country. He told me he would like to keep the budget between $60 to a $120 per night. He will probably engage in the normal tourist type stuff like shopping, palace tour, floating market, dinner cruise, etc… When I talked to him I suggested he find a place that is centrally located and near a SkyTrain station.

I made a list of hotel suggestions to help them in their search. I wanted to give him a lot of options, but not too many. Looking at my suggestions, are there any hotels you would take off the list or add to it?

Centrally located places I am going to recommend:

Le Fenix
Holiday Inn Pleonchit
Holiday Inn Silom
Centre Point Langsuan
Centre Point Wireless Road
Centre Point Saladaeng
Montien

Other hotels suggestions I am going to give that aren't necessarily central:
President Park
Davis

Going a little above the budget, I am also going to throw in some of the more luxurious places near the river:

Millennium Hotel
Shangri-La
Sheraton Royal Orchid
Lebua at State Tower

I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

dagul, I assume the budget you talk of is in $US? not Fijian / New Zealand / Australian etc etc etc.

Now that I have that out of my system,, I can offer a very nice plan.

For BKK may I suggest the Platinum suite at Grande sukumvit by Sofitel,, LUSH !!!!!!!

Assuming they will be staying longer in Thailand but not in BKK, I would suggest a cheap airfare up to Chaing Mai, there are a selection of cheap airlines including airasia, tiger etc etc that will get them there for under US$30 including tax. In Chaing Mai I recommend the Sofitel riverside very nice,, stay there 3 days and enjoy the mountains, elephant rides etc etc.
Now, they may be itching for some SAND ans SUN,, fly back to BKK (US$30), then BKK to Phuket ( US$ 30 each) and stay at the Novotel Phuket. If time allows a day trip or more to Phi Phi island is GREAT.

To get this type of luxury within budget will take a little forward planning but is all easily scheduled over the net.

1) Purchase an Australian "advanbtage plus accor card",, yes you'll get a better price.

Costs if planned 2 or more weeks ahead ARE,,,,

Platinum suite Grand Sukumvit, 3485 BHT
Sofitel riverside Chaing mai 3570 BHT ( use the free night that comes with the card here)
Phuket Novotel 2584 BHT.

Mention of "honeymoon" when booking these hotels will very likely see upgrades ( if available) and or a bottle of Champagne or similiar.

Eating at the top class restaurants at or near these hotels ( accor sofitel etc ) will see a further 50% discount for the card holder.

Depending on plans and length of stay, it may well be worth both of them getting the advantage card so they get 2 nights free and BOTH get 50% discount on food.

Wow,, I'm thinking of divorcing my Thai wife just so I can do this honeymoon

Regards
Mel.

Centre Point Petchburi - it's constantly being ignored, which is why it's a great little spot (right across from Panthip Plaza). Currently, their rooms are 1,650 Baht (normally 1,900 to 2,100 Baht).
