Mr Alan
Yes, faxing credit card numbers is standard procedure and completely safe. Fax lines are not part of the internet (unless you are using internet fax) and are private just like phone lines (unless someone has the lines taped).

Actually, I tried faxing my credit card number to Admiral Suites yesterday, but the fax failed 6 times, even after negotiationg a fax speed, and getting the CSID from the Admiral fax machine. I may have to just call them with the number.

I would really like to know if you are successful in faxing to the Admiral Suites fax number. I tried about a dozen times and gave up. I had to call my credit card number in. I have successfully done other overseas faxes recently.

Will do so...I may just call them, though.
I've no fax at home anyway. So why not
call from my house instead of giving someone
else even more $$$ for being a middle man? A
fax is just a phone call after all.

I used the fax software on my computer to send the fax (WinFax Pro). The main reason for faxing is that it is cheaper because the call is usually shorter (about 10 times shorter) and less subject to errors.

The people at the hotel did not speak English very well (the manager was out) and it took me a while to explain why I was calling them. But when the manager came back he emailed me that he got the info and my reservation is confirmed.

I stand corrected that the fitness club is the Capital Club not the Centre Point. I do believe that you should be able to store your laptop in the in-room safe. It is very large.

I have a secure website you can use via asia travel to confirm your reservation, just in case. What yhe heck is winfax pro? Did you buy tis as an after market addition to your basic desktop set-up?

Mr Alan
Symantec WinFax Pro is an add-on program that allows one to send any computer document as a fax. You can also receive faxes to your computer. However, you need a fax/modem connected to a regular phone line for this feature to work, unless you use internet fax (but that is not secure).

I think that most versions of Windows have a fax feature bulit-in, but I already had a copy of WinFaxPro which is little fancier, so that is what I use. Look in the Windows Control Panel.

Having just stayed at Admiral suites for 8 days, thought I would add my 2p worth......

Firstly I booked by asia tavel and had np all very smoth and would use them again.  I had a mix up in travel arrangements and could not make the first night. Emailed asia travel and let them know whats up and asked them to sort it out so I did not have to pay no show fee. Again all np.

Not two many taxi drivers know the Admiral suites so be prepared to show them the way! Check in area small and friendly. Get electronic room key that I kept all week. Most eves when bringing guests back secruity guard smiles and just takes id and puts in desk NP. Although it does state in hotel stuff that you have to sigh something to authorize guests but never happend to me.

Room 100% just like a modern western city centre apartment although I upgraded to the 1,800Baht one. All clean and very nice. My fault I did think that there was an in room DVD player which there is not.

Maid very friendly and had to tell them to take the tip when I left! Good gym and small swiming pool on roof. Just a bit of a shame re view as they have high walls if you want to look down to Soi 22 and enjoy the view.

If you are a butterfly then one word or warning. The security guard grassed me up to my sort of regular girl that I have had other women back!!!! But I sorted that out ok. Maybe slipping a few Baht first night would have sorted that!!!!!

Not to many western Farang there, and quite a few eastern guests. My room looked onto a series of appartments opersite (over the main car park) and quite enjoyed seeing girls come out across the street waving and smilling at me as I watched the world go by on the balcony.

24 Hour mini market ar base of building, so great place to pick up some beer and food on way in. Having kitchen big plus as can make late night snacks... Had my snacks cooked by more than one BG. I guess they liked it as well becuase they allways ate well.

Needed late checkout which cost me half day rate and got stung for credit card surcharge as well. I would have contested that if it was not such a nice place to stay.

At moment am back in 4 weeks, so 90% certain staying there again. Going to try this time to get room upgrade for free.

Enjoy

I will be arriving at the Admiral in about 5 days.  I assume the locaiton is right on soi 22 just down from the Imperial Queens Park, on the other side of the street?

When you say mostly guests from the east, do you mean Japan/Korea or some other countries?

Did you eat the breakfast? They offered the ABF for 2000 baht per month extra, but I didn't know if it was worth it (not sure if I will be awake at that hour anyway).

Someone else posted that guests were able to go to the Capital Club Fitness Center near Presidents Park (same management as Admirial Suites). Is this still the case?

Next time you can book directly with the hotel manager via email or fax and get a return email from him that states there will not be any credit card charge (if you ask). That's what I did. Probably helps if they don't have to pay travel agent commision plus the credit card fee. But even so, I have to pay my credit card company about 3% for charging in a foreign currency.
