Emporium Suites, - on top of the Emporium dept store, great location, magnificent rooms, skytrain to Nana out the door - they have a web site, but think around 5/6000bt a night up, security, but by and large no problems with TGs either.

Have stayed in The Sukhothai in the past for reasons much like yourself and recommend it heartily. It's on Sathorn Road which is quite near to Patpong and not too far from Sukhumvit. The restaurant there, Celadon, is very nice too.

I like the JW Marriott on Soi 2 one block from Nana. Friendly staff, good food and very TG friendly, no surcharge. The Landmark has very nice rooms as well (recently completely refurbished) I do not know how TG friendly they are, I heard conflicting reports. Sheraton Grande Sukumvit as mentioned is very nice right next to Soi Cowboy and they have an excellent Thai food restaurant. I would imagine the Oriental would not be TG friendly and unless you are going for the Suites you probably would be disappointed. It is a good place to go for the dining and nice drinks in the Bamboo Bar where you can experience the 'Oriental' service without paying for the room. Don't forgot many room rates are quote ++ which means you have to add 10% service charge and 7% VAT on top of your rate so your $250 room rate becomes $294.25 (add 17.7%).

Conrad The Conrad definitely! It may be classed as a biz hotel situated at the enormeous all seasons place on wireless rd minutes from ploenchitt & nana. continuous free shuttle conrad/bts shuttle to BTS & loads of cute office girls milling around the office tower & exclusive mall at most times. It's very trendy & well equipped & just opened january so brand new featuring the '87' perhaps hottest club in town? Guest friendly also as I brough 2 very sleazy angels girls at a time with absolutely no hassles & only $100 for regular room so get a suite

The latest Travel and Leisure mag lists the Peninsula as the #1 rated hotel world wide. Also the Oriental Hotel has slipped from last years #1 to much lower in the ranks this year. I don't expect these hotels be to guest friendly. But if you feel like splurging for a day its a nice place to stay.

I agree with chilli that the Conrad is fantastic. The room I had there was one of the nicest I have seen anywhere. I booked it on the Hilton website and surprisingly, they gave me a $75 AAA rate. They also have a Thai and international buffet that is up to "gourmet" standards.

Though the Conrad is nice and has that kinky touch of being able to open from the room the curtains to the toilet.... of the hotels mentioned in the thread, I find the rooms at the Regent, Grand Hyatt, Peninsula, Sukhothai and Shangri-La superior to the rest of the others hotels mentioned here (I am not familiar with the Dusit Thani rooms) The Shang is nice and has a more active lobby, but I do not like much its location; same goes for Peninsula (other side of the river). As a former user of all those hotels, my first choice remains the Regent. Though location is basically same as Hyatt, I sleep better at the regent -I think the Hyatt's doors have too much clearing at the bottom and you get a lot of noise from the corridor. Emporium Suites is very good (I stayed there for a month 2 years ago and it is my first choice for a serviced appartment,) but for a few days, I prefer a 5* hotel instead of a serviced appartment.

Smegs: You can always do like I did and buy a house. Since I am working elsewhere, my per night sleeping cost while in Pattaya on leave has only averaged out to 55,556 baht per day. I do have cooking facilities, however.

I'd like to put in a good word for the Shangri-La. Checked into the new Krungthep wing today, and it's sensational. Stayed at The Venetian in Las Vegas last month, but I like this room even better because of the classy chandelier and power drapes. (I'm so lazy I don't want to get out of bed to open the drapes in the morning). Private balcony, overlooking the river, offers great views of the city. I'll be looking for a LLT tonite, because this room is so comfortable, I don't want to leave again until check-out. I booked via Priceline, so your limit covers me for THREE nights. Thanks to a nice tip from the forum (User: piston), I enrolled in Golden Circle, and now receive complementary breakfast and newspaper, as well. Krungthep wing is best with separate tub & shower, stereo TV (speaker in bathroom). Really nice room & grounds.
