Sheraton Royal Orchid is guest friendly. Great hotel. I've stayed there many times.

No need to try bullsh_tting them. They know what goes on. Some 4 * hotels do charge extra for the joiner and almost all 3 * do. For the 3 * and lower hotels, the joiner fee is a relevant source of revenue.

Evening gents,

First post on this site....interesting reading.

Got a question re 4* and joiners fees. Holidayed in LOS several times but when in BKK only really stayed in serviced apartments, Centre Point (Suk) and the Rembrandt, but more often than not in the Honey Hotel - never had a problem bringing a girl back.

To my question - won a few quid on the nags so booked myself into the Davis hotel on soi 24, when I arrive Thursday am. My TGF is meeting me at the airport and we're headin straight there. I've booked double occupancy but as the Davis is technically a 4* gaff, am I going to have any problems? Thinking as it'll be around lunchtime and she'll (hopefully) be semi respectably attired it should be cool.

Anyone stayed there or heard if it's guest friendly?

Thanks in advance.

I havent stayed there and will be very interested to hear what you think of it.

It is a 'boutique' hotel... so the 4* rating is a reflection of a lack of amenities rather than the quality of the rooms. They have loads of different themes. The hotel has only been open for about 3 months.

Place is almost certain to be guest friendly because it is owned by K.Chuwit, the biggest and best known massage parlour operator in Bangkok. In fact Chuwit is planning to open a massage parlour right next door (half finished building, being built by K Tech). (For more on Chuwit you can UTFSE)

He has opened a new club in the hotel called Club 88 (dunno if the name is a reference to Tarantino's Kill Bill or the Conrad!!) - only opened a week ago. Two pretty trendy Thai places right next door - Mao - a bar on the ground floor and - Fuse - a club on the first floor. All owned by Chuwit but all dead when I was last there.

Bet you will have a blast!!

P.S. I post this rather useless response because I suspect that the hotel is so new that no-one has stayed there yet.

Thanks for the info Abrak - sounds like I may have chosen an interesting place.

I know what you're saying re the rooms - only staying one night before heading south, so tried to find something a bit different and somewhere you could have top time in the room as well as out - one look at their website was enough for me and at only £50, at today's exchange rate, for a 'design' room, sounded too good to be true.

Didn't realise it was that new though - could've sworn I've past it in the motor before when connecting on to Rama then the freeway south - must've been under construction.

I shall endeavour in the short time I have to sample all it has to offer and will report back, probably next week sometime.

Thanks again for the info Abrak....cheers.

Just read your report Bemsha, the pool area sounds very nice....thanks for the info.

Going to find out for myself soon enough but did you think the place/rooms did the website justice? And did you get the chance to check out Club 88....is it worth a visit?

Thanks again for the info.

I stayed in a superior room a couple of nights at the beginning and end of December. Different, but consistant rooms.
The picture just under "rooms" at this link:
http://www.davisbangkok.net/hotel.html
...is indicitive of a superior room. Pretty much the same as the rooms I stayed in, so I assume the other rooms pictured are pretty much on the mark.
To get from the hotel to Sukhumvit Rd./Skytrain, I would grab one of the motorcyle taxis right in front of the hotel. The going rate was 10THB.
I went down to Club 88 on the last night of my stay for a stiff drink with my TGF. It doesn't sound like the place Abrak mentions but matches the pictures on the Davis website. It's just off the lobby on the left as you the front desk. The place was pretty dead. It started out with a Jazz club (note the pictures on the wall), but turnout was low so they switched to pop. It didn't seem to help much. The band was a trio and only so-so. Probably only four other tables occupied at around 11pm.

Hope this helps,

- bemsha
