Back to the point
I forgot to repeat my earlier tip in that when I am booking on line, and paying by CC, I only ever book 1 or 2 nights. That way you minimise the risk and can move on easily if anything is not OK. I have never had a problem extending a stay in a Thai hotel if I am happy with everything.

Never any problem. As long as you are away from a holiday or something, you are in the strong position of agreeing the same rate, or less, or walk out. There is more hotel capacity than enough in Thailand

I will try that after I get to the Nana "epicenter" I have never stayed there, but heard it is run down, but I know the location fits HS's depiction, so I will just have to see if I like it.
Have you ever tried to extend if you went in on an outside "online" booking, then stay paying direct to the hotel?

I always do that. After booking on line, you get an e- voucher or similar to present at the hotel. After that the hotel will be happy to extend your stay at the same rate 'cos they aren't paying the agent.
I have never stayed at Nana hotel but it doesn't have a good reputation for room quality.

my co-worker did have a problem extending his stay for the same rate as the one that he booked on the internet. This was because he went through a 2nd party and paid them. They intern paid the hotel. So, when he wanted to extend his stay the hotel changed his their rate, which was about $40 more then the internet rate.
