Travel with a hardcase. Always bring along a biccyle chain lock. Keep your stuff in the hardcase & chain lock it to plumbing.
Usually, it is quite safe from the hotel staff (except once in London. Yes, the girls will nip your things.

The problem with locking through the wardrobe handles is that under the fancy veneer most Thai furniture is cheap particle board. If you put something under the bicycle lock and get a lever action working I think you'll find you can pull the screws through.
If you're awake, it's a good plan. But passed out drunk or worse, drugged, and it's questionable whether this is real security at all.

I often wonder how much of this snooping is dishonest i.e. with the intent to rob & how much is just idle curiosity.
I have had many girls (& girlfriends) look through my belongings.
I had a 5'2" Filipina g/f who found a few photographs on the top of my wardrobe (7'). These were taken before I met her but they upset her & she had to question me on them.
I have a thai friend who loves to change my ring tones & organise my phone. She does this in a very charming way but I know it's because she wants to check on who calls me & who I call.
Tg's are very similar to Filipinas in that respect, yet I have never had anything stolen by either, whether they be BG's or non-BG's.
