bootydaddy5 On my last trip, I was kind of in the same situation you were. I wasn't sure how many days I wanted to spend in BKK and Pattaya, but I wasn't going anywhere else. As a first trip, have most of the days booked. When you arrive, you can see how they are. If possible, book a hotel that allows you to cancel your reservation with no fee. Check with the hotel ahead of time to see if they are so busy, you wouldn't be able to extend your days when you get there. Many hotels in BKK and Pattaya let you cancel your days with 24 hour notice. Book hotels that don't require a credit card ahead of time. Keep in mind getting from BKK to Pattaya is easy being the bus is 90 baht and you can travel anytime you want. You can generally get cheaper rates if you E-Mail the hotel ahead of time and wandering into hotels in high season might mean higher rates and less availability. Use the internet to get more info on hotels once you get there.

hello again some interesting views, monty dog, I agree with u, but only if it works out that way lol. gminn, u say in your post,"but not going anywhere else", but I plan to go to bangkok/pattaya/phuket/koi samui/krabbi etc etc I was thinking of booking hoetls in each place I go to just to get settled there, and then see wots availible. i will have to say so far the chart looks like this: 70% I should take the risk, leave things as they are, and book as I go, so I have freedom to move about, and i'm not stuck in a hotle if I don't like it. 30% book everything prior, as it is high season, as still very chancy, andcancel in a hotel if a have too. gminn I see your point too, that first time round it might be better to keep it simple and book, but still I can't make up my mind which to do lol

bootydaddy5, I prefer to book everything before I am in the country. The few times I arrived in places without a booking and had to book something from the airport or wander around town looking were all disasters where I had to waste the next day looking for a better place. Hell, I am on vacation and did not come half way around the globe to be a porter. I prefer to have a place where I can dump my bags and then go looking for a bar or some food instead of a hotel. I sometimes even bargain the price down by e-mail. Herodotis

I wouldn't pay for a hotel online, only reserve the room via telephone beforehand, for about half the trip. Never had a problem cutting short or extending stays before. Its not too much hassle to get one on arrival - Secret - travel light clothes + condoms is all you need then u ain't got much to lug about!

Book in advance. Yes. Pay in advance. No. If you know the towns where you plan to go and do not intend going elsewhere, sure you can book. Sometimes I need to pay a deposit but I never pay the full price upfront unless it is through Priceline. That way you can leave if it is not to your tastes. Or do like Kotprakhon says, book a few nights only. However, I did this in Pattaya at The Residence Garden and when I wanted to extend for a few days in April they had no more room. Once you have found places you like, the next trip is that much easier. Herodotis

bootydaddy5 Since you are visiting places that require a plane, you probably have to book the flight ahead of time, so research hotels with this site and book the entire trip. The information on hotels here is good. Don't waste your time looking at hotels in each city. If you are traveling in between BKK and Pattaya, then you have freedom to change the dates. Book the hotels via E-Mail or phone. In general, allow more time in BKK than Pattaya. BKK has more to offer, but if you like beaches, islands, elephant farm, and sailing, allow a few days in Pattaya. If you want some info on hotels in either city, send me a pm.

Hi again, Is it guesthouses I should be looking at instead of hotels. Currently. I feel I should book no more than I already have, and wait till I get there. Could someone confirm what it is like in november, because I heard december and jan are more a problem for finding accomodation. I'm planning to book Koi Samui, and that's it. alot of the hotel companyies I have looked tell me they can't promise there will not be a fee for cancellation, and it seems a big risk to book everything, when I have no set plan, as to where to go or what to do. more feedback please thanks

Most hotels in BKK and Pattaya are good. If you go with the information on this site, you will find the right hotels. As long as you don't reserve a room ahead of time with a credit card, you can cancel it when you arrive. Good luck.
