The Westin and Sheraton may be under the same management, but not necessarily the same ownership. Some hotels are independently owned and they hire the Starwood to manage them.

Starwood owns or leases 163 hotels in which Starwood has a majority equity interest (substantially all of which hotels Starwood also manages), manages 277 hotels on behalf of third-party owners (including entities in which Starwood has a minority equity interest), and receives franchise fees for 308 hotels.

Rico,

Couldn't find the post you referred to. The price you got from Sheraton (US$ 60-70) was this from Priceline, a corporate rate or what?

I have stayed in both Westin (Previous Delta Pacific) and Sheraton. I think Sheraton is truly a 5star property but Westin still is a notch below. They changed the linens and have improved the restaurant facilities immencely, but the Sheraton just seems a higher standard. Sadly, I used to pay only BT 1800 per night at Delta and now the Westin rate is the same as Sheraton. Although the bar on the 7th floor is fantastic and there is no place in BKK that has a more beautiful group of waitresses... a bold statement but I would defy anyone to point out the place that has more "10's" on the bar staff!!

One other note about Westin; I stayed there just after they changed and first night upon my return with a young lady, we stopped for her to show ID to the night watchman. As we turned to go up to my room, I heard the guard say something that I thought was english about 'daddy'. I mostly ignored it thinking it was Thai not english. The next night, same guy same thing only this time I turned around and saw a sh_t eatin' grin on his mug. I went back to him and asked if he has something he would like to say to me in english? He said no, and I went to the front desk and told the night manager, that I am not sure if I misunderstood, but I do not appreciate the guard making comments in english when I return to the hotel. The manager apologized and the 3rd night, old smiley didn't say a peep.

I am not sensitive about age, in fact if the girl wants to scream "c'mon f' me daddy" during the act, it's fine by me!

I got both stays through Priceline. The Sheraton deal was made through priceline.com, the Westin deal through the Hongkokng section. I would be real lucky, if I could get a corporate rate at this range, but as I work for the German goverment, I guess there arenīt any deals avaiable.
You are absolutely right about this stupid prick of a guard. Although I never had any problems, I would act like you and tell the manger about the problems. Never bite the hand that feeds you, is a saying here, but it seems that they forgot about it and only see the cow that got to be milked in you. I hate this crap and often thought about to change my destinations. I hope there will be a crash like 1997, which will put them back on the ground and let them think about, what went wrong. But I doubt that they will learn from their mistakes.
So that was a little bit off the tracks. Sorry.
@Jack, drop me a PM, when you have questions.
Just 14 days.

Booked the Westin for 35stg for a two night stay (tried the same price for first 4 nights, then three, got it at two). then got it for the further two nights a few days later at the same price.

Got the Sangrila at the same for a three night stay.

Yesterday I managed to get the Sheraton for a price of 67$ plus 14$ taxes and fees (2rooms for 2 days). Seems that the business model of priceline works out very well at these days. Now I only have to try to get a hotel for the rest of my days in Bkk at the first days of august. Maybe I will try the Shangri La. Any experiences with traffic to Sukumvit and Silom?
Only 4 days til my return.
Rico

Shangri-la is right on a BTS station. Take the BTS to Sukhumvit and back.

If you want a specific class of room is that possible on prieline? I was going to book a exec. river view room at the Shang in BKK and thought about trying to get it via priceline?

Is this doable - or do they just assign you the cheapest room at the hotel?

Also, should I try priceline or priceline (HK) for booking a room at the Shang in BKK ?

Thanks,

J

Mr Alan
You cannot book a specific class of room, since you don't even know for sure which hotel you will get. All you can do is request a certain class of hotel (5-star, 4-star, etc). I have heard that Shangri La club members can sometimes get a free upgrade and breakfast, even with Priceline reservations. But I don't think there are any guarantees on this.

I've booked the Shang 3 times using Priceline, then upgraded on check-in. There always an upgrade available. Until recently, for $25 you could upgrade to a suite with Golden Circle membership, but that's now been increased to $65. Most recently, I've upgraded to a 'Horizon Room' for $75, which is a large corner room on a high floor. Also, tried the 'Horizon Suite' for $100 extra.
