I've tried to get a 5-star hotel through priceline for $65, then tred $70 with no luck. Was hoping for the Westin or JW Marritt. Dates were October 31 through November 4. Has anyone had any 5-star luck for those dates? What price did you pay?

About two weeks ago, I got the Westin from PL for a $60 bid, for Oct 30 & 31st. Good Luck. Sometimes I've gotten the Shangri-La on the Riverside for as low as $55.

Thank you all for your encouragement and your suggestions. I tried again at $75 with no luck. I've heard that November is a busy month and maybe the change from the end of October until early November makes a difference. I'll take your suggestions and keep trying. I appreciate your help.

tourism in LOS must be up. I have been trying to get a room for 9/15 -9/20. All of my usual haunts came back with sorry no rooms available for any of those dates. A friend of mine in for the same period wound up staying at the Novetel soi 33 after trying 7 or 8 hotels and being told no rooms. BTW we are both dealing directly with the hotels, not a wholesaler. I had the same problem in april.

Hotel tariffs are up because inbound tourism is up.
TAT figures for Bangkok hotels are -
Occupancy rate January-August incl 2003 55%
Occupancy rate January-August incl 2004 73%
That is for the Bangkok market in general, the better hotels would be above the average occupancy rate. With that kind of occupancy rate, the low yield rates are the first to go.
Reasonable to expect further tightening (meaning higher tariffs and less discounting) when the second airport is operational.
Still worth trying Priceline, but don't expect it to be as good as it was last year.
