I checked into the Town Lodge on Dec 29th. These are my impressions after spending two nights there. My impressions of TOXIC will be covered in a separate post. Positives (in no order) : 1) I corresponded with the Town Lodge staff numerous times via e-mail before I arrived. They always responded quickly with the information I had asked about. 2) Check-in was no problem. Quick and efficient. A welcoming drink is a very nice gesture. 3) The staff is excellent. While some only have limited knowledge of english, they are all helpful and polite and try to resolve problems quickly. 4) I booked the standard room for 1200bt/night. Basic room with good bed and air conditioning. Under-the-bed lighting is a nice touch. Probably about 30 inches of walking space on both sides of the bed - more than ample. 5) In-room safe is large and works just fine. 6) There are many electrical outlets available. And, they are all USA-plug compatible (220v, so you need a converter if you only have 110v appliances). 7) TV and DVD player work as advertized. Selection of DVDs (about 75-100) available free of charge. Quick scan showed lots of action and adventure stuff. 8) Reasonable breakfast included in room price. Eggs, ham, breads. A coffee/expresso maker is available self-serve 24 hours. 9) Internet service available in lobby. Charge is 100bt for the entire stay. Seems to be fast enough for my surfing and e-mails. One desktop and one IBM Thinkpad laptop R30. There is also an attached HP Deskjet 3845 which I assume works. 10) Tuk-tuk service available free from hotel to Sukhumvit. I tipped him 20bt and he took me to Robinsons (Soi 19) with no problems. Tuk-tuk was there most of the time when I looked. 11) With the window shutters, you can keep the room as dark as you like for as long as you like. 12) There is an ample (or more than ample) amount of lighting and levels of lighting. 13) Beautiful and exotic bathrooms on the ground floor near the reception area that are also shared by TOXIC. 2 stalls for men and 2 for women. Artzy washup area in between with cloth hand towels. 14) There is an open and pleasant lobby/breakfast area in the reception area. 15) I asked that the mini-bar be emptied of everything so that I could refill it with my own selection of libations. This was done without issue quickly. You get 2 bottles of water free each day. 16) Guest friendly. 17) Area around Town Lodge very quiet at night. Other Stuff: (Note that I don't say negatives - the interpretation is up to you.) 1) Front desk seems to be staffed only from 7am - 9pm. No one answered my calls after that time. Outside of those times, RTB seems to be available to deal with any issues. 2) My room was 206. Noise was VERY loud all night until 5am - because 206 is right above TOXIC and right at the stairwell going up. And then the noise begins again at 8am. I asked for a room change, which happened without issue to 404. 404 is extremely quiet, even with TOXIC going full blast. Never heard a sound. 3) No room service available, according to the front desk. Obviously, you can call yourself to have something delivered. 4) I had no hot water in the room for shower or sink. Since I didn't try the hot water until 11pm, there was no one at the reception desk to ask. Turns out there is a switch under the sink that must be turned on to get hot water. But, no one told me about it. 5) There is no general information about what is available and what is not available at the hotel, or, about how things work. 6) It is a 6 minute walk (I walk reasonable fast, but not that fast) from the hotel to Sukhumvit. I timed it about 4 times. 7) Minimal dresser drawer space. One large, one medium, and one small drawer. There is more than double that amount of cupboard space, and a good sized clothes hanging area. 8) There was a damn mosquito in the room. 9) The shower is the open type with a drain in the corner. If you open up the shower pressure to maximum the entire bathroom floor with get soaked. If you leave the pressure as low there is no flooding problem. 10) There is no lift/elevator. Four floors, so if you have some mobility problems you need to consider this. I believe that you must climb at least one flight of stairs to get to any guest room - there are no rooms on the ground floor. 11) Like many modern hotels, the key is attached to a plaque that must be inserted into its holder in order to activate the electrical in the room. Typically this is a pain in the butt if you want to charge something while outside of the room. However, it is quite easy to detach the key from the plaque, leaving the electrical on while you have the key in your pocket. 12) Since Town Lodge is at the very end of the Soi you have to reassure the taxi driver that there is really a hotel at the end. Most of them stopped at some point to question if you knew where you were. The Town Lodge/TOXIC sign has only limited visibility from most of the Soi. Once again, these are only my observations impressions. Your mileage may vary. I realize that the hotel has only been open since September and kinks always need to be worked out.

I was going to stay here... the taxi almost made it to the hotel.. but then there is a one way street just before Toxic... we could not pass. Barely enough room for a taxi to go. The one way street was going the wrong way. If it is not a one way street, then there is only enough room for one car at a time. This was at about 2PM so lots of trafic around. This was going down Soi 18 to the end... I could see the Toxic sign but I still do not understand how a taxi makes it there! My Taxi driver turned left at the last street before the hotel (since he could not drive any further).. he even hit his side mirror because the street was so small. I do like to walk..... but it does seem very far.

Not a 1-way street, but you are right. Only enough room for 1 car at a time - terminating in a dead end that requires the car/taxi to back up to get out. And about the narrow street even in the part before that turn you mention. If you are walking the Soi you really need to be alert, since the last part of it has no usable sidewalk and there is considerable traffic.

This is probably an unattainable suggestion, but is it possible to open a new Town Lodge thread which is kept free of flames? I just endured reading 22 pages to find some info on Town Lodge, 75% of which was flames. Believe it or not, 99% of readers aren't interested in these tantrums. But thanks to the guys who did post useful info - good stuff. cheers Piper
