Thanks thaiaficionado, I might do that if I have any money left. My flight isn't till evening time, so It will give me something to do I guess. Will pop out first for some final relaxation though probably.

""I think the grande deluxe rooms are located on one of the top floors, I have requested the highest floor possible in the booking anyway""

Brogg,
All the rooms at the Sheraton are the same, unless you are getting some big suite. All their generic rooms are called DELUXE. The Grand Deluxe will be the same room, just that you get a couple more perks for the extra money. Same Same Room.

I was just posting what I have been told by reservations via email.

"Grand Deluxe Rooms are on Upper Floors and feature 24hr Butler Service, Complimentary Local Calls, Complimentary In-Room 24hr High Speed Internet Access, Daily Complimentary Evening Cocktails, Daily Buffet Breakfast Served at the Orchid Cafe, Complimentary Daily Laundry (3 Pieces), Additional Bathroom Amenities Complimentary Fresh Tea or Coffee Through Butler Service, Daily Newspaper and Fresh Fruits Replenished Daily."

I do not know which of these "extras" are already included in the Deluxe Room package. The actual size and furnishing of the rooms seems to be the same yes, but I did not claim otherwise. I do not know whether a Grande Deluxe Room is effectively any available Deluxe Room on a high floor that gets a few extra perks assigned to it when you check in, or if Grande Deluxe Rooms are already assigned as such, be it on a certain wing/floor, or are scattered around. It seems the former would be a bit illogical in terms of extra work/organisation involved, but I have not stayed there, and (presumably) you have. Maybe they are conning me hey..

Should I email them back and say Baquawn thinks you are having me on then? :b

Anyway, I wasn't trying to brag, as I'm not that bothered about it (although the free internet and booze would be nice). I booked the room as it seemed the best value package available. I was really just notifying those who had given me advice in this thread as to what my final decision was.

Brogg;

From what I'm reading in this thread, sounds like you got a decent rate at SGS. Usual rate I get from either SPG.com or SheratonGrandeSukhumvit.com is in 155-165USD range (I'm assuming a cheaper rate could be had through Priceline). From my experience, differentiating factors on room charge are (1) breakfast buffet, (2) evening cocktails and (3) included H/S Internet fee. If these are must-haves, go with the reservation you have. If not, maybe look at lower rate, room and amenities will be the same as other SPG floors, just less perks included. Another option is Westin Grande across the street. I'd classify SGS as a 'luxury hotel', and WGS as a 'business hotel'. Both excellent 5-stars, both a part of Starwood Preferred Guest Program, both girl-friendly. You should be able to get a room same perks as SGS for 20-35USD less at WGS. Room and bathroom smaller at WGS though, but very nice none-the-less.

Most of this has already been covered by the other BTF brothers, just offering an outside opinion.

Cheers,

Oldtimer
As much as I don't really feel too safe these days in American labled hotels these days, we always put up at the JW Marriott. Just used to this inn now after about 30-40 stays there. They sometimes upgrade us to a one bedroom suite...decent of them.

The security is very good here and the staff...well discreet. Everything very efficient...and best of all they don't have any of those blasted tour groups.

Aso the restaurants in-house are top notch. I have been entertained royally in the Chinese one, taken lassies to the White Elephant (Thai), and done some business in the New York Steak House. The latter is regarded as the best in BKK.

Brogg,
No big deal. I was just saying that I have spent a lot of time in the Sheraton, and both the "butler Service" room deal, and the just plain room deal. Both the same rooms, as just the perks and food is added to a normal room which can be on any floor. They have about 10 "Prefered Guest" Floors, but I don't think that really makes any difference, but a higher view out your window.

Butler service is just the same as calling downstairs to get someone to bring you ice or something. In the Westin I like that they come around to fill your ice bucket early in the night. The Westin also seems to be much quicker with any room service requests.

Anyways, enjoy your stay.

Westin has the best hotel mattress, I've ever experienced.

Walk of shame never seen it nor have I experienced it.

A Foody
Agree with Oldtimer - JW Marriott has it all, not to mention the clear glass shower in the rooms (...) and the separate bathtub (guess, which one TG's are using?..)

Being a foody I LOVE their Pastry Shop, called Bangkok Baking Company, directly accessible from Sukhumvit, beats the nearby Starbucks hands down. Talking about hands - unfortunately the "no hands" outfit next door is gone, replaced by an Irish pub.

And yes, girl friendly it is, no walk of shame, everyone gets into the hotel through the side entrance nearby the hotel entrance. It's a 90 seconds walk from NEP.

I guess, at the end of the day it much depends, to which loyalty program one belongs. I am with Marriott Rewards, so nothing else can do.

I stayed at the Westin last month. Great location, girl friendly. I would stay again. I used my hotel points and stayed for free.

Next trip I'm booked into my favorite BKK cheap Charley hotel, Majestic Suites.
