Oldtimer recently stayed on one of the Landmark's new "lifestyle" floors, instead of in his usual room at the JWM. The Landmark room was very stylish with open glass between the bed and bathroom. The room service breakast was also included in the room price plus a 10% discount on in-house restaurants. However, two negative points were the Landmark's large 31st. floor executive lounge which offered less range of grub than available in the late afternoon at the JW's 16th. lounge, and secondly, the very long "walk of shame" across the Landmark's lobby. However, at least no one challenged Oldtimer bringing lassies home each night....nor were ID cards requested. I find the heath club better at the JW, or maybe I am just more used to the machines and how they work. The Landmark's staff were generally very attractive and friendly. But the JW's people better trained and more responsive. A week later I was back at the JW Marriott for a couple of nights, despite the enhanced secuirity surrounding the building.

Oldtimer, happy to see you finally found Landmark. Yes it may be that the exec lounge at the JW offers a bit more food but 1) its really simple food 2) not worth the extra money they charge for this. The JW did renovated the rooms (up to the 15th floor, 16 floor will be done this year and a few floors above it too), and I've even inspected them. It JUST looks nice but in real, I do not like the functionality of the new furniture. The RainShower showerhead is more of a pain for me than a real pleasure (preffers strong streams from the shower). In some of the new rooms (or is it in the renovated suites) they are supposed to have jacuzzi and their better rooms have an LCD/Plasma TV. But their prices went now way up. I used to stay there a lot when the prices were (for me) less than 1/2 of today's price and the hotel was newer. But overall the Landmark presents the best value and of course has a good location. It will not hurt Oldtimer to get a real dinner or lunch instead of living on the cheap sandwitches and other small foods he gets for "free" (you pay for it) at the JW. Food is cheap in thailand and very good and one of the pleasures to enjoy even if you pay few 100s baht more! So Oldtimer should not feel guilty wasting his "free" Exec Lounge food and should go out and enjoy a good lunch or dinner from time to time. JW is not the place it used to be and now with the security risks (remember the other JW that was attacked with a bomb) it may not be a wise safe choice. In fact, the staff there (whom I know from long ago) told me after the coup the hotel was almost empty as many guests canceled their reservations. Landmark for me is the best value and service. If you want to get even more go to the SGS. The Westin is good too. All better than the JW. Cheers! Ap.-

Agree, and it wasn't easy getting the rainshower pushed out of the way.

The Plasma was nice. But even better was the console next to the desk that had all the input and output connections to hook up your laptop and/or MP3 player to the Plasma. That alone is almost enough to get me to try this place again. But SGS still ranks first for me.
