I have been to Bkk roughly 18 times in last four years
Tried the Majestic, Royal Asia residences and a handful of serviced apts. ; each.......once! Always returned to the RP. Always booked a double.
Always tipped the car park and security guy 50 baht when "entertaining" FL's or couples with a car. No tip when bringing in simply a guest or two. Never --- 3-sum/4 sum, one or two couples, FL's, LB's or two---had a problem. Never...never..asked about joiner fee.
My Thai couple friends never were asked for ID's (simly a nod to the secuity desk). FL's and TG's P4P always were, and the call from the desk, as noted above, is a secure touch.
Aside from all that...Soi 22 is great, nice places to eat, legit massage, quick laundry outside hotel

Does anyone know if there is still construction going on around this hotel? Want to stay there this trip but heard the noise is not worth it?????

Yep, construction scheduled to continue through to 2006.
I agree RP is convenient, but I have to disagree that it's girl friendly, as I found out last month. Even had a lengthy conversation with the general manager and he confirmed that joiner fees would apply even when a double room had been booked and paid for. Good luck to luvr though if he never experienced a problem

OKay, final word:
Construction continues...book through internet and you get construction side.
Joiner fee: Pay rack rate, or Larry's Dive Shop Rate (1750), for a double, and you get no construction, no joiner fee.

I've just come back from staying at the Regency. I had no trouble bringing a girl back to the room - however I had made sure that I advised for 2 persons when booking (same price as 1) and as it happened she booked in the same time as I did as we'd come on from elsewhere.
If you arrive late as I did and fancy a massage the in hotel service is very good (if a tad expensive).
