Of course you do not have to stay at the same hotel that the event takes place unless that trip is paid by some organization which includes a mandatory selection of that hotel. There are good near by hotels and you can take a cheap taxi from them each day to go to the event and after the day's activities are over, get back to your hotel in another place... yes maybe not as a nice place as the DT but sure with less chances you beeing seen by others.... I checked in on February 14th for a three day stay. My TG flew in from Isaan the following morning. I met her and sister in the main lobby. We walked by the many employees on this Saturday mid morning and proceeded straight to the elevators nearest the main lobby check in. The three of us were greeted by staff with smiles and Wai and no questions were asked. The ladies were wearing stylish/classy dresses. However, the staff could have asked questions. The sister left the following day. The TG and me walked in and out many times over the next two days without hassle. The stay was very nice. The staff is very nice. The location is perfect for taking the skytrain, the outside shopping venues and Lumphini park which is a nice venue to exercise in the morning. The rates a pricey but well worth the expense to this visitor.

Report from The Nation dated 29 April 2014 :- Dusit Int'l reasserts its position as one of Asia's leading hospitality groups at ATM ================================== Dusit International will reassert its position as one of Asia's leading hospitality groups during the upcoming Arabian Travel Market (ATM), with the team of executives. Led by Chief Operating Officer David Shackleton, they plan to discuss developments in the region, the launch of their new premium hotel brand Dusit Devarana, the rapid development of its 'next generation' dusitD2 brand, and the announcement of 18 upcoming properties with 20 in the planning and development stage throughout the Middle East, Asia, Americas and Europe. "The Dusit International Regional Office in Dubai is fast becoming a major focus for our international sales efforts, overtaking more traditional markets in Europe and Asia" explained Thierry Douin, VP Operations MENA. "Dubai is already established as an international hub, connecting the world. With the advent of Expo 2020 and planned developments in the region to support this international trade expo, we anticipate considerable growth in outbound travel from the region to 'new' markets such as China. Dusit will be focussing its efforts on driving travel from the Middle East to its new hotels in China, delivering traditional Thai and Asian hospitality with the levels of service expected by this discerning and well travelled region." Founded in 1948 by Chairperson Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui, whose first hotel was the Princess on Bangkok’s New Road, Dusit International has since acquired a unique portfolio of distinctive hotels, building upon Thai culture and tradition. Dusit International currently has 13 hotels in Thailand, 5 in the Middle East with a 6th to open in Qatar shortly, plus Dusit Thani Hotels in The Maldives and Philippines, and the recently launched Dusit Devarana New Delhi in India. The 2013 alliance between Dusit International and China-based real estate developer Changzhou Qiao Yu Group resulted in the establishment of Dusit Fudu Hotels & Resorts which has yielded an astonishing 19 upcoming hotels in China alone. The joint venture is well on track to reach its target of 30 properties in China by 2016. Dusit International has expanded its international reach into the USA, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey and Myanmar, and is currently in negotiations for projects in Europe.

http://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/dusit-thani-bangkok-thailand/index.html End of an era as Bangkok's Dusit Thani hotel prepares to close Karla Cripps, CNN • Published 9th November 2018 ......The Dusit Thani Bangkok, a city icon famed for its striking modernist architecture, is closing its doors in early 2019. It will be torn down to make way for a mixed-use project that will include a rebuilt version of the hotel. Though the new Dusit Thani will undoubtedly be spectacular, nostalgic locals are sad to see the original go. They're using these final months as a chance for one last visit.........

Always brings back memories when I think about the Dusit Thani... … When they had the last coup/red shirts/yellow shirts... whatever, I lose track... my ex Thai wife was staying in the hotel.... I was staying somewhere else She rings me up, screaming that people are shooting and firing bombs at the hotel and she scare.... she scare I was a bit pissed off they didn't manage a direct hit on her and save me a lot of wedge in future divorce proceedings. https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Three_dead,_over_70_injured_in_Bangkok_blasts
