Apollo, do you know who the owner of Town Lodge is?

Have you confronted rtb and Town Lodge management about your issues with them?

With reluctance, I have to share the following.

I booked two pals of mine into Town Lodge two weeks ago. Did it directly with RTB.

I never received a confirmation, or contact of any kind from the staff. I was overtaken by events, and called and emailed RTB seeking confirmation, but never received the courtesy of a satisfactory reply. I finally confirmed by phone with the chick who answered the phone at the reception desk that they had the reservations booked for my friends. Two Superior Rooms.

Well. When we arrived, we were informed that all Superior Rooms were already booked. They did not bother to tell me before we came, when I called. So My pals went in Standard Rooms. Yes, I was f***ing pissed. I looked like the asshole who could not book rooms competently. I booked in advance. I tired very hard to coordinate everything in advance. I was told that the reservations were good to go. They were not. My pals got rooms with showers, no baths.

No discounts, either. RTB mentioned something about a "100 baht drink coupon" per day. No idea whether they ever even received these. Thanks, either way.

Whatever. We checked in, and we got on with life.

Well, my pals reported that the service was less than stellar.

They reported that RTB was far from congenial.

Again, whatever. RTB is a Brit, and these guys were Americans.

But still. I have met RTB, and I felt that I was throwing some business his way. Granted, no one is going to get rich off a couple of hotel rooms, but I bring clients, associates, and friends to Bangkok every month. That shit can add up.

Anyway, my pals pulled out of the hotel early, and went to Pattaya, and then to Phuket. When they returned to Bangkok, I put them in the Emerald Hotel on Ratchada. My esteemed friend Mr. Stefan, the Assistant Customer Service Manager, personally ensured that everything was satisfactory, and it was a pleasure to work with professionals who understand that courtesy and good service are not that f***ing hard to deliver, but are very much appreciated, and result in much good will.

So. Like I say, I hate to slam RTB. But if this criticism results in his pulling his head out of his ass, and treating strangers with a little friendliness, then this will end up being constructive criticism.

Or, not.

Regardless, I will not be placing anymore clients or friends or associates in Town Lodge.

Obviously, your mileage may vary.

PS:

Oh, yeah. One other thing. This tuk tuk that they are so proud of? We were able to use it one time.

The driver was never available.

We asked on several occasions, were told "just moment, please," and were left hanging.

On three separate occasions where I was present, I said "f*** it, let's walk." And we did. On two occasions we hailed a taxi before we had walked past the hotel up the road. On the third, we walked up to the hotel, talked to the bell captain, and he took care of it for us.

It was just par for the course at this place.

Perhaps it was RTB's thick British accent!?! Even I sometimes have trouble understanding him, sometime he sounds like Bernard Manning!

A stand-offish manner is a characteristic of British nobility and RTB has ties to the royal family. Queen Elizabeth, for example, won't speak to anyone to whom she she hasn't been formally introduced.

Well, being perfectly honest, my mileage DOES vary.
I'm back this Sunday night for my fourth visit since December.
Twice I've called from Oz in advance and when I arrived everything was exactly as requested.

Town Lodge is not the Oriental, nor does it pretend to be. What it is, in my humble opinion, is simply a great place to stay in Bkk. It is a little off the beaten track (which is a BIG plus for me), it is friendly, quiet (except when certain Southern Comfort drinking Aussies visit !!)

My worst complaint is that they forgot my breakfast order one morning...gee what a crime.

Customer service delivery is not a phrase that is often used in the same sentence as Thai hotels, but for mine, these guys do a really good job.
I genuinely believe Town Lodge to be fantastic value and a great place to stay.

Cheers Dumsoda

Ive stayed 4 or 5 times and never had a complaint yet, except when some drunks made alot of noise one morning at 5am, a quick shut up from 202 soon fixed that. Even left one trip 4getting to pay the bill, when I got home I got in touch with Management and they said no problem fix it up when u get back, wasnt loose change either.
Rooms can be full at times and really the difference between a standard and Deluxe room is 2 feet. Jacuzzi rooms are different naturally, butt here is only 3 of them and I run a Backpackers Hostel and sometimes rooms can be overbooked, u just have to make the best out of the situation. Probably a idea to say 1st in best dressed with regard to the Jacuzzi room.
Are you sure RTB was around?
RTB is the owner of Toxic and hismates run Town Lodge so I think the serve u gave him is undeserved.

Ive used the Tuk Tuk about 4 times in 5 trips, just not enough drinking time when u take that. Personally I think only lazy prix take it anyway.
What room is the Superior?

Dumsoda great to see u on here mate, about time

Was RTB's accent British or Australian? Some Americans don't know the difference.

Pretty sure it is British, because I can get a few words here and there. I can't understand a word that comes out of either Oz or Wowser's mouth, so I know they are Australian.

The difference between the Standard Room and the Superior Room is not just two feet. The former has a shower, only, and the latter has a bath tub.

This matters when you want to take a honey home and have your own soapy time.

The entire reason why I took those guys over there is because RTB is associated with that place. I had met RTB in Toxic on a previous occasion.

I was disappointed that he was not cordial to my associates.

I get the impression that the guy is a little shy. No problem.

I felt as though they deliberately did not mention that the Superior Rooms were full because they just wanted to get us there. The likelihood that we would just accept Standard Rooms once we were there would be high. And so we did.

The punishment for that little bit of bait and switch is no more referrals from me.

Those of you who have relationships with RTB can probably expect much better treatment from him, and I am pleased for you.

Obviously, the guy did not feel as though he needed to try and make me a friend.

No problem. I have plenty of friends.

I wish him well.
