Actually the JW Marriott is halfway between the Nana and Plenochit BTS stops. The Plenochit BTS stop is slightly closer to the Marriott, but late at night you might be better off using the Nana station.
The Westin is a very short distance from the Asoke BTS station. Not only that, but the UP escalator to the BTS Asoke station is on the Westin side (not the Sheraton side).

Just spent 5 nights in the Sheraton Grande, my 14th stay there in 3 years. Nothing to complain about as usual but thought I'd let the members know of a couple of observations.
Firstly they are doing a very good poolside BBQ most nights from 7:00pm. Cost is 790 baht++. Excludes drinks but includes a selection of appetisers, all-you-can-eat mains (read meat/chicken/seafood) cooked to order and a selection of deserts. I found this great value although the desert selection was crappy.
Secondly, they are in the process of knocking down the pedestrian footbrigde between the SG and Westin. From the look of the pylons that have been installed they are going to install sometype of pedestrian above ground walkway from the Asoke BTS to about the western edge of the two hotel properties. Should make the life of pedestrians a little easier in that precinct, particularly those that have to cross Soi 19.

I've booked Sukhumvit 5 times on Priceline and was dealt a very good hand: 2 SG, 2 JW, and 1 Westin. Prefer the Sheraton slightly over JW Marriott, and the Sunday Brunch at the Sheraton is well worth mentioning if you're extremely hungry. Usually a decent band at Rivas, did a few good cigars in the corner when it wasn't crowded. Enjoy a relaxing smoke listing to the music, and also helps keep the 'mosquitos' away.

I will be coming in April 2006 so I am still not decided which hotel sheraton or westin. I have not stayed in either hotel so anyone can make any recommendation. So far I favour westin more because it is cheaper and same side of soi cowboy and soi 33 plus near to skytrain.

What, you can't cross the street?
Up escalator to BTS is on Westin side. If you stay at Sheraton and use the BTS often, you get a free stairmaster workout.
