You can get much cheaper internet rates just up the street at n-bari.com, 1/12 Soi 10 Sukhumvit. They just have a fan, no AC, but it only costs 40 baht/hr. Get a card and log 9 hours, get one hour free.

1/2 baht per minute is 30 baht per hour, so the places I mentioned are cheaper. They are both air conditioned and there is a well maintained restroom in the Times Square Building, as well as other stores and restaurants.

I usually like to use the internet cafe in Times Square as well. Though I usually use the first one up from the escalator though.
I just confirmed my priceline reservation with Westin that my room would have high speed internet access. Looking at the different rooms available from their normal web site, it looks like only the Deluxe room and up (not superior) have high speed internet access. Is this a good accessment ? Do you guys think that I should then get at least a deluxe room then ?

Has anyone been using Priceline lately to book rooms? In November we paid $55/night at the JW Marriott, and are planning to return in April and are hoping to get a similar price.

Last month I tried getting JW Marriot for the usual $55 bid, but was unsuccessful.
Not a problem, I'm currently staying at the Shangri-La. I reserved it with a $82 bid (although I had gotten it twice before for $65 bids). However, with Golden Circle membership, I was able to upgrade to an executive suite (the last one that was available) for an additional $25/day. So, with tax, it's about $125 for the suite. The river is directly in front of me. I believe the rack rate is about $335.
Also, for mid-April I reserved the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit with a bid of $60. I placed this reservation about 6-8 weeks ago.

For Jan 30,31 and feb 1 I used priceline. Bid 55 and was rejected. went up to 60 and was rejected. It offer free rebid for a price of 92 or higher. I passed, waited 4 days (jan 15) and bid 65 rejected. rebid 70 rejected. offered free rebid at $97. waited until Jan 27 to rebid. Priceline would not let me bid for Jan 30 (I guess you have to be at least 4 days out to bid on thai.) I bid $75 for Jan 31 and Feb 1. and was accepted and given Westin Grande Sukumvit. I went to the westin website and booked King room for Jan 30. Got to the hotel and they refused to give me the king room (apparently becuase I had the priceline room for the following 2 nights) After a long discussion I gave up. They gave me a room with 2 double beds for all 3 nights. No breakfast. At the same time JW was offering a $100 all inclusive rate. which would have been $5 more than the priceline but included breakfast. I might bid priceline again but never at more than $60. With all the fees priceline charges there are too many nioce hotels available over the internet for less money.

Yep. For whatever reasons, last month was a bad month to bid in PL. I had similar experience as well. Wanted JW, but winded up paying about $85 US for 3 nights in Westin Grande. I tried both with US and HK's PL. I gave up on PL after that, and just went to a regular hotel booking site for JW. Still took a few extra days for final confirmation than usual, and wind up paying close to the standard rate of $110 per night. At the time, JW's own web site had rate of about $145 or something.
I paid the heavy price out of frustration, I think. But I really wanted to stay and try JW this time around. Luck was not with me this time around for PL. I hope my bed arrangement is not screwed up when I arrive...

I would expect that during high season bargains are hard to come by.
Cheap charley loves low season as there are many bargains around. About two weeks before I leave I will email the hotel manager and I only deal with the manager as he knows what the hotel's occupancy rate will be and he has the authority to lower prices. I send out 10 emails and I tell them I doing this and whoever comes back with the best price gets cheap charley's business. I usally stay 16 nights or more. Hotel managers love long stays during low season.

Talking to thai hiotel managers I must bring the high season with me everytime I come. On various visits they have told me it is high season in Jan, feb, april, may, july, august and october. I just smile and say "me lucky farang."

Marriott hotels have a guarantee. If you find a lower regular price somewhere else within 24 hours of booking they will not only match it but give you an extra 25% off. I have not read all of the fine print but it sounds good.
Anybody have any experience with this?
I ended up using priceline for my Bangkok stays when flying in and out and got The Westin Grande on the in and The Sheraton Grand on the out. They were booked a month apart and the Sheraton was cheaper than the Westin. The Sheraton, from past stays I know to be a great hotel and I guess I will find out what the Westin is like in a month or so.
