OK, here is the story of how I got a upgrade at Majestic grande:
I had booked and paid for a Grand Premier room at asiarooms.com.
I had of course seen the pictures at their website.

I hope for their sake they have changed the description and the pictures. Because both the pictures and the description of the Grande Premier room where false (I have cut the text) :
Grande Premier (35 sq.m)
...
Offering more space, this type of room provides a comfortable lounge extension in which to relax, looking out over a small balcony garden with sculpture feature.....
Well, the room I got was from my eye not 35 sq.m and did not have a "comfortable lounge extension".
So I went down to the reception and told them.
"Yes, yes. Same-same, but different layout."
She showed me the floor layout. All rooms same same size.
I told her it was'nt making it any better that they scammed an entire floor, but I knew I could not challenge that at that time.
So the next day, when I was at the supermarket next door I bought some measurement equipment!
The room:
4,75 x 6,55 = 29,7 sq. m. (from memory now, but pretty accurate, I believe).
I wrote it on a little piece of paper and asked to see the manager. A lady sat with me in the bar.
I told her I was happy with the room, but it was not what I paid for.
OK, she said. She would try to get me another room the next day.
So this is day 3. I got a message on my phone saying I was going to check out of my room.
"I'm not going to check out for a long time," I said.
"Ok, hold on and we will get back to you."
"I'm going out now."
"Ok, hold on............. You are moving to another room..."
And the room! Same f***ing room, but on another floor! This got me just a little bit pissed. So I took the printouts I had made of the description and the pictures of the Grand Premier room I had made the night before with me down to the reception and asked for the manager.
I asked her:
"Why did you give me the same room as before?"
She just looked at me. Then I put the printout on the desk.
"We can both take a walk up to my room and you can tell me if my room look remotely familiar to your web-adverts."
She just took a quick glance at it, punched some digits on her computer and said:
"We have a deluxe room for you, Sir."
The Deluxe room was very nice, and actually looked like what was promoted online as the Premier.

looks like they tried to cheat you. If you paid for Grande Premier that is a better room than Grande Superior which has 28 Sq M and this is what you got at first it seems! You should have gotton this on day one and not 3 days latter. Hope indeed you got a Grande Delux - did you measure it to be around 40 Sq M? Otherwise they called it Delux but it was your old Premier which you have paid for (even if AsiaRooms' rate is cheaper then what is on the MajesticGrade web, there is no reason they give you an inferior room when you pay more for a better one!). There was no mistake and the descruptions of the various rooms are still on both asiarooms and MajesticGrande webs. I would have made a fuss day one and would not care for any excuses including talking with the General Manager (insist on this next time you have a problem at major hotels - this works well for 4 and 5 star hotels not places such as the Nana hotel. One reason is the staff is scared of the general manager since they are supposed to solve problems and not get the guests to complain to him... welcome to Thailand... !

I did not measure it, but my eyes said around 40 Sq M (and I guess I'm able to spot the difference between 35 and 40), and it clearly stated Grande Deluxe on the printout when I checked out.

With all due respect. Agree with everything you said. However Asia rooms like many others are not adhering to the Minimum Selling Rates of The Majestic Grande. All websites must have no lower prices than The Majestic Grande's own. If you make too much of a fuss, they check to see the origin, they may refuse check in.
Heard from the hotel that they are starting to clamp down. Watch this space. Not the customers fault. The agent should follow the contract.

saucytim, if all websites sell rooms same same why would anyone book with an agent instead of booking with the hotel's website? Does not make sense now does it? Hence most agents cut prices. Don't know what is wrong with Majestic Grand, I don't stay there, but other hotels do offer different prices permisssions from one agent to another. Conclusion is to avoid places if hassle is too much to worry about, but this is an individual issue. erikE situation was different - he was lied to in his face, claiming room he got was a higher class than it reall was. That is not a class act for a 4 star hote such as Majestic Grand. I am not in the travel business such as you, I stay usually at the Landmark after going around a few other hotels, Landmark is all around best for me.

Hi Guys,
I've now book flights and most of my acc for my first trip to bangkok in jan07, Im staying at Majestic Grande for 5 nights followed by Areca Lodge pattata for 4 nights, I havent booked my return acc in bangkok for 4 nights yet and was wondering whether I should book the MG again or should I give another hotel a try??? I would be interested in other peoples opinion is there another hotel I should give a try around the same standard in the SUK area??

Hyperterminal, I would pick a different residence for the final 4 nights in BKK. Probabaly try out a service apartment in the Sukumvit area. You need the exposure for future trips. No kidding to you -- there will be LOS blue after your first trip and you will come back to Thailand again.
I suppose you are getting excited for the trip. Wish you to have a pleasant trip.
I am also going to Thailand in New Year period, staying in BKK for few days only.
