I have got to be honest and give the thumbs down regarding my recent three day stay here. Unlike others I did not like the casual attitude at reception, kind of ho hum, another customer to deal with (this from the 'large' girl who seems to be in charge). Standard room only just acceptable, but only just. I wanted the deluxe by the way, but these were all booked during my stay. Second morning there was zero water from the shower and when I went down to check out the problem I was met with the same 'what's the problem' kind of look. After waiting 20 minutes I went back down and she had obviously done nothing about it and I was asked to wait half an hour more. Eventually I was shown across the soi to the staff showers. You do not want to use the staff showers, beleive me! Deceided to check out two days early the next morning as the hotel was clearly not set up for anyone with any kind of an agenda to keep to. I asked for a taxi and she (it's always the same girl it seems) telephoned for one. You guessed it, 30 minutes later, nothing, so I check again. She calls again, I wait 20 minutes, nothing. this time she sends the room maid down the road to get a taxi, 15 minutes later and no sign of the girl or a taxi, so I put my bags behind the reception desk (the only reason I had not gone to find a taxi in the first place was that my bags were on the floor in reception) and head out into Soi 18. The first thing I see is the taxi finder hiding behind a street vendors cart chatting and eating fruit! WTF, 'no taxis' she says, not behind the fruit cart there isen't! I find a taxi in 60 seconds flat, dump the bags and get away from there with a big sigh of relief. Sorry, cheapish it might be, but you do only get what you pay for. For only a few hundred baht more you can go up to a higher level of hotel altogether. (Fetching flame proof romper suit being firmly zipped into place as I write)

Quote paulo100.... For only a few hundred baht more you can go up to a higher level of hotel altogether..... paulo, I have been a long time supporter of TL, but on my last visit a couple of things got up my nose.... (I will not elaborate, but I have raised the issues with management) In all fairness to TL, my frame of mind was not good that day, as I was leaving and I am never happy when I have to leave my girl. More and more on each visit, which, by the way, are every 3 - 4 weeks. Now assuming that "a few" = 3 Please be so kind as to give me a list of....higher level hotels..... that can be found for 1500Bt a night (including Breakfast) Even after allowing for minor shortcomings (after all TIT), I am yet to be convinced that there is a better "value for money" Hotel in Bkk. JMHO Cheers DS

Dumsoda... You might as well just move to BKK for good and be done with all of the visits, airfare, expenses, etc. You'll be a happier man and people all over town will ALWAYS be wondering why you have on the "perm-a-smile" 24/7...555 Don't be so grouchy next time you leave and be sure to treat my Front Desk GIK nice...555 I'll echo my 110% Full Endorsement for the TL also. I've only stayed there twice this year but for the money, there's no better place in Bangkok...bar none!!! I've even booked out the 2nd Floor Jaquzzi Room for a 16 night stay come late December and into middle January!!! ~ DEF

Dumsoda OK, you got me there, 'the few hundred baht' in my post was more like 1000, but my point is this, there is a big difference between cheap and value. Yes TL is cheap, but I did not think it good value. I did also make the point that it really depends on the main purpose of your trip. I go often to BK on business and sprinkle as much fun into the mix as I can possible fit in. These trips ar funded by others, so I stay in good 4 to 5 star hotels. This time it was a business trip funded by myself, but because I am the weak willed bas*tard that I am, I was still determined to have as much fun as possible, while keeping to my self imposed budget. That's why I ended up at the TL, but I was wrong. It just does not work as a place to stay if you have any kind of business (and therefore a schedule) to keep to. There is laid back, and there is 'couldn't give a shit' and I definitely felt I encountered the latter at TL. So I moved to the place I normally stay in and for 1000 more was in a different world in terms of service, surroundings and luxury. Maybe I am just spoilt! (probably am)

In Thai terms.... 1200 baht is not cheap.... The Manhattan, having usual good reviews from members, is less than 1,000 baht per night....
