Doc. with the greatest respect there is absolutely no comparison between the 2 Hotels. IMHO

TL...by the length of the straight...in my book

Yes, you're right... no comparison.

Manhattan:

Nice renovated rooms (fairly large)
Location - at the top of the soi (1 minute to Suk)
Decent American breakfast
Large lobby with 24 hour staff
Limousine and taxi service

Town Lodge

Shoebox sized rooms
Deep in the soi
No breakfast (apart from 'free' rolls near the 'kitchen')
Small lobby with limited seating (suifficient though for the size of the hotel) and obnoxious staff.
Failing Tuk Tuk Service (proofed on the last rainy RT).

obnoxious staff.

Come on be fair, it's not really surprising they're like that to you with the joke you always play on them everytime you come in by wearing that hideous mask and scareing them shitless.

All the Manhatten rooms are renovated already? Really? I thought they go floor by floor and have no idea where they are today. Maybe according to the constrution progress next door...

I liked the Manhatten before the construction work started so I would like to add for Manhatten:
Solid two more years of construction work right in front of your "Garden View " room window.

But then again, there are these 4 Millenium Towers which will be built in the next - what will it be ? 3 years, 4 years, 5 years right behind TL between Soi 16 and Soi 18, so I would like to add for TL:
Great upright view on the latest of BKK construction projects for 3, 4, 5 years...

Doc.
O.K. I stayed @ Manhatten last December and the room was quite run down.
I agree with all the other points though.

If the rooms are now renovated, I may take another look.

However TL does provide breakfast (included)
Fried Eggs & bacon...or Ham Omlette (sorta scrambled)

My experience with the TL staff has been mostly good
Tuk tuk has been excellent....I guess a tip helps!!

Cheers DS

To be honest, I've seen only a few rooms... not all of them of course. But they were quite nice..

Breakfast... even if that's included, it doesn't compare to the Manhattan's breakfast.

Staff... the fat one is not friendly (the second time I've experienced).

TukTuk... it's a service... and service should be good without the financial rewards.... IMHO it should limit itself to trips to the mouth of the soi so it's available most of the time.

So IMHO there is no comparison.

Hey RTB does not get obnoxious until after 1:00 AM when he is thoughly drunk and he usually doesn't put it on the TL's guests, but goes down to GLOW.

Yeah, you are right. During one of the RTs, we wanted to arrive at The Ritz in style, so we persuaded him to take us all the way there.

I've stayed at both. Next week I will be staying at the Manhattan again. Mostly because:
1) More convenient than the Town Lodge;
2) Cheaper than the Town Lodge (if you book on-line) ;
3) Other forum member I'm travelling with is staying there:

Dr. Love is correct about his comments on the Manhattan. I would add:
1) The 4th floor of the Manhattan is non-smoking. If you want a non-smoking room you have an entire floor to choose from.
2) The buffet breakfast, included in the room price, not only has a large selection of American items, but also caters to Japanese and Korean. All TGs that I have brought there have enjoyed the breakfast.
3) As long as you book a double, you have no problems with bringing a TG into the hotel. Usually (but not every time) they request the ID of the TG). Booking a double entitles her to the buffet in the morning.
4) When I was there last (March), the 4th floor was being renovated.

I've also stayed at the Town Lodge. I would add:
1) Dumsoda is right - you can get a breakfast cooked for you. Its a bit limited, but quite nice. However, the seating area is pretty limited.
2) Free wireless Internet. I don't know if it works in every room, but it works in the lobby and in some rooms.
3) Free Internet terminal downstairs. There use to be 2 of them (one laptop) - I believe that now there is one desktop available.
4) Often when I stayed there (a year ago) staffing of the reception desk was spotty. Several times I had to find RTB to get what I wanted.
5) The bed underlighting was a BIG hit with TGs.
6) I asked that the mini-fridge be emptied so that I could stock it with what I wanted. No problems - they did it cheerfully.
7) TOXIC is a couple of steps away.

So, for the price range, I think both are acceptable choices.
