I have stayed only two nights at each of the two places under discussion (Town Lodge and Manhattan). Just to add to RIT's post.
The room I stayed in, there was no comparison. The Town Lodge has newly remodeled rooms and the rooms I stayed in at the Manhattan hadn't been updated for decades (425 and 724).
The Town Lodge is quiet, many of the rooms at the Manhattan have construction noise. The location of the Town Lodge is not near as favorable as the Manhattan.
I had a breakfast sent up to the room at the Town Lodge, it was very good.
The Manhattan has wireless internet in some of the lower floor rooms, but it is 100 baht for 30 minutes. Town Lodge's wireless Internet is free.
The Manhattan has a pool, the Town Lodge does not.
I have had good service from the staff in both places. (EDIT IN to correct the typo).

I'm hoping that the construction near the Manhattan is done. I don't think I have seen a mention of it lately. Guess I will find out next week.

I'm assuming CG did not have a typo here. The service that I've had at the Manhattan has ranged from fair to good. The service that I have had at the TL has ranged from non-existant to good.

paulo100 I think I would be upset also if that happened to me trying to get a taxi at TL.
I have stayed at both places, only once at TL and for only one night so not a lot of experience there. I have stayed in three rooms at the Manhatten but it was over 2 yrs ago.
If the rooms are renovated at the Manhatten I might be able to take staying there again. If not I don't think I would want to stay there.
I would rather have a smaller nice room then a larger worn out room. Found the room at TL very nice considering the price.
I arrived late at night at the Manhatten and opened the curtains to a look at construction going on : ( I moved twice that stay and never went back.
retiredintahoe I looked a few months back while walking by and it still looked like construction was going on beside the Manhatten

My 2 cents. Stayed at TL earlier this year for 3 nights it was fine no lift is a bugger and the construction that shook the room really pissed me off, but I cant blame the TL for that.
Breakfast, never made it so cant comment I do prefer coffee in my room (is there room service?).
It is well down the Soi but I like walking even in BKK, staff no pompem.
Had a standard room if I were to stay again would want bigger better room; hey it's a holiday I want all the comfort I can get. Getting Taxi's simple walking down the soi loads of them got BKK - Patt for 1300bhat I think.
Toxic nice but never had time to spend there apart from short RT.
So would stay again it aint in the top five but top 10.

I cant see why anyone whos looking for cheap, good hotels wouldnt just stay at majestic suites.
Its got perfect location, 1200baht a night if you book online, service is great, brekkie included, friendly girl-friendly staff, clean rooms with marble bathrooms.
I think it epitomizes value. Sure TL is 200baht or so cheaper, but that bit you save at TL you end up paying in transport going to and from the fun zone!
Again, for those people looking for a hotel in this (around 1000-1800baht) price band; I think this one is a no-brainer.

Stayed at MS, but I just felt the rooms were a tad too small, felt like I was being choked and the walls were closing in at times. Damn noisy air con & bumps & thumps from all surrounding rooms.
Never stayed at TL, but for a few baht more I really enjoyed Swiss G.
Sure the location of MS is great, but can't recommend the rooms, way too small & noisy.
