I know of a gym on soi 1,VITAL LIFE or smth like that.
It's all the way down to the Bumrungrad Hospital old carpark entrance (the new one is up and runnin,right?) a few steps past Number One bar.
If u happen to go there,please chek the daily rates and post them, even if ever resided there I never walked in but from the outside seems nice.
Or u can always join the open air aerobic lessons in the yard of Krung Thai bank right across JWM,around 6PM...a lot of women's there tho.

Vital Life Fitness is an OK gym, went there today. Decent equipment, some free weights, changing room with lockers. 350 Bhat walkin daily charge or 1,400 Bhat weekly. OK rate for what they offer.

GMM Grammy expands into fitness
=============================================

GMM Grammy, the country's largest entertainment conglomerate, has diversified into fitness complexes aimed at the health-conscious in Bangkok.

The GMM Fitness Club was officially launched yesterday on the AA Floor of GMM Grammy Place, Sukhumvit 21, in a joint-venture partnership with Catareya Wright, who has 13 years of experience in the fitness field.

Catareya, managing director, is also the owner of the Oasis Health Club, located opposite Pata Department Store in Pinklao. Opened two years ago, the fitness centre has attracted more than 1,300 members and reached break even after only six months of operation.

Catareya holds 49 per cent in GMM Fitness Club Co Ltd, while the majority stake is owned by GMM Grammy.

"Our first 1,175-square metre fitness complex at GMM Grammy Place now attracts nearly 300 members, half of them people working in the building - including Grammy singers and artists, executives and general employees - while the other half are walk-in customers," Catareya said, adding that the fitness complex required a investment of Bt40 million and 33 major items of equipment.

Catareya said the annual membership fee was at Bt28,000 for the general public and Bt18,000 for GMM Grammy employees.

"We expect to reach the breakeven point within three months, when a total of 500-600 members has been achieved," said Catareya. "We plan to expand GMM Fitness Club complexes to other office buildings in Bangkok, opening at least one each year."

Catareya said the company saw great potential for fitness centres in Bangkok as market penetration is still low, at only 3-5 per cent of the capital's population.

Fitness First eyes the provinces
===================
Fitness First Thailand is planning to spread its wings upcountry within the next few years, heading to Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Pattaya as priority projects.

"We are planning to add three or four new branches a year in the next two to three years. The new clubs will be located both in Bangkok and other major cities," said the company's managing director, Simon Flint.

Flint said the company would soon expand into the provinces as its sees high potential there. It is still searching for a suitable province in the South in which to open a branch, with Phuket the most likely option.

Fitness First will be the first international fitness-club operator in the country to operate outside Bangkok. Its membership fee for upcountry branches will be lower than for Bangkok as the operations are likely to be smaller.

The company currently runs 11 clubs in Bangkok and surrounding areas, nine of them normal operations under the Fitness First name and two up-market branches called Fitness First Plus. The latter are situated at Bio House Building on Sukhumvit Road and Q House Lumpini Tower.

Fitness First Plus at Q House has 2,362 square metres of space and cost Bt110 million. Seventy per cent of the investment went into construction and decoration, the rest into exercise equipment.

"As the second location for Fitness First Plus, we are targeting 'B+' customers, particularly those living and working around the central business district. We expect to receive about 2,000 members," said Flint.

The Fitness First Plus membership fee is 20 per cent higher than for normal Fitness First outlets, and is also higher than its direct competitor - California Wow Xperience.

The Q House club is one of three new outlets scheduled to open this year. In July, the company will launch an outlet at Seacon Square Shopping Centre on Srinakarin Road in the east of Bangkok. The Bt100-million club will operate as a normal branch.

The third new location this year will be in the business area, on Suriwong Road, and will be run as a Fitness First Plus club. "This new outlet is worth Bt70 million," said Flint.

The company's revenue was Bt800 million last year. It aims to increase this to Bt1 billion this year, and to Bt1.2 billion in 2007.

Compared to world wide standards Gym memberships are extremely expensive in BKK.
I'm amazed at who actually pays these exubarent fees.
Most of the locals obviously couldn't afford it, and I couldn't imagine and high percentage of expats being into gym membership style fitness or simply farangs buying yearly memberships.
One thing that is hard to accept is paying for something (anything) more that you do back in your own country, and a gym membership is one of them.

I suspect that yearly memberships are very differently priced than the walk-in, or short-term weekly rates. As daily rates go, these are more or less in line with what some gyms around here charge for short term access.

Anyone know membership rates for yearly or monthly?

It's not like the whole country is destitute, you know. At my gym the price of admission is as high or higher than Fitness First and CaliforniaWOW, but 9/10's of the clientele is Thai. Are they getting by on Bt5K a month? Not hardly...
