Not my experience but I haven't stayed there for two years but I doubt that it has improved.
IMHO There are many better options in Suk area.
I would never stay at Ambassador again.
I think there are enough mixed reviews here to indicate that the hotel has problems.
I 'll be in Bangers in a few weeks and will stay at either the Manhattan or across the road in the Somerset.

I really hope it has changed, if it still is like The Machine has described I have made a mistake booking there.
I will report what I experience when I arrive in BKK at the 20th this month. See if the bad rep it is getting is justified, or if I can polish up their shield a bit.
For the statistics, I have paid 99 US for 3 nights/4days with brekkie. Which is about 4000 baht, in the tower wing and double occupancy, so no guest hassles. Got this deal through http://www.planetholiday.com/

I was there in april and did not have problems. The people at reception were nice and efficient. The biggest problem with Ambassador and Manhattan is getting a queen size bed instead of two twins.
You will be asked to pay money to bring a woman up to your room if you have not paid for a double room rate. That is not paying for two rooms. It is paying for two people in one room. So Veejrah, make sure your agent booked it as a double.
Safety deposit access 24 hours a day, compared to some other hotels that close in the wee morning hours. They also have a 24 hour restaraunt and a fitness center (not 24 hours). The rooms were nice in the Tower Wing which from my understanding is the wing to go for.
I was not intending to go to Ambassador Hotel on my last visit, but I couldn't get rooms at my two regular hotels on short notice. I booked the Ambassador online reluctantly because of the reports I had heard were slightly negative. But I was coming on a late flight and just wanted my room. I was pleasantly surprised.
Again, book the tower wing as a double. The biggest problem is getting a queen bed if preferred over the standard two twin beds. Why do they do that in Bangkok? Third, watch out for the guy getting taxis for you from the hotel. If you have your luggage and are leaving he will ask if you are going to the airport. If so, he will call a buddy with a metered taxi on the side waiting instead of a roaming metered taxi. This taxi guy will try to get a negotiated fare instead of using the meter. I told him meter or no ride. I might tell them next time I'm changing hotels and get a real metered taxi using the meter.

Thank you for the info you provided. Have booked a Tower Wing, double occupancy and a big bed instead of 2 smaller ones.
I chose the hotel based from what I saw last time I was in BKK. It certainly looked like a big and nice hotel from the outside, and being close to the Nana BTS station is definately a big bonus.
Last time I was stuck up at the Atlanta hotel for 6 days. Then moved to a smaller hotel situated on some sub soi between soi 4 and 6 Sukh. road. The place had some bedbugs and I was bitten by them on the face. Also stayed at a hotel opposite Grace which has a travel agency next to them (belongs to the hotel). Do not remember the names of these places, any bro's out there who do?

I arrived at BKK on Wednesday morning and had a booking at the Ambassador Hotel in the Main Wing. I had got thre booking done only for 2 day as advised by the friends on this forum.
This is the obversation that I have in 2 days.
The Hotel staff in very helpful and very friendly. I checked in on 10th morning and had a booking for 2 days. Paid 30$ (1260 Bhatts) per nite to my travel agent (not online) with an included breakfast. (the bastard cheated me as the rooms in the hotel are also now available for as low as 1200 Bhatts) I wasent so annoyed on teh travelk agent until I checked up the website http://www.planetholidays.com. They are offering a double room in the Tower room for $33 (1386 Bhatts) which again included Breakfast in the sea food.
Also as I had a only 2 day booking in the Main Wing I sent a request to the Planet Holiday ppl and after chatting with their executuive for 15 minutes she gave me the address to the Bangkok office. I went there, they called up the hotel got me a booking for 4 days incl Breakfast for an unbeliveable price of 1386 and that too just 24 hours before the booking date. (the other online booking companies/travel agents we not even accepting the bookings) I mean for the price the Hotel in very good, its centrally located, the food is also good, the staff if friendly and they easily understand English).
Tommorow I would be checking into the Tower Wing of the Ambassador Hotel and I ve heard that the building is new as compared to the Main wing which is showing signs of ageing.
