jaybee,

How many days are you bidding for? Priceline needs all the days in their inventory to service your request. About 6 weeks ago, I was able to get Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit for 5 days and 6 days respectively, both for a $60 bid. I find it to be a slightly better hotel than JW Marriott. I enjoy soaking in the deep tub, and bought some music CDs to play on the stereo system (no complaints from the neighbors yet).

Just today, I was able to get the Shangri-La for 3 days in late May for a bid of $55. Although away from the action, it is right on the river and a 5 minute walk to the BTS station. I've never had a problem bringing girls in during my four previous stays there (except for a few nasty looks from some old bitties on the elevators, LOL), and this is an outstanding hotel. I've stayed at JW Marriott twice before, and much prefer the Shangri-La, even considering the greater distance to NEP and Soi Cowboy.

Thaiacifionado,

Thanks for the info on Priceline!

BTW, are you using Priceline Hong Kong website for your bids, and did you specify the Shangri-La, or merely 5 star hotels in the Chao Phraya river (Thonburi) area.

The Shangra-La must be nice if it is worth the inconvenience of the extra distance to NEP/Soi Cowboy.

Anyone have anymore winning bids for Sukumvit lately? I have been trying at 55 dollars and 60 dollars with no luck for the past 10 days.

I really want to try JW Marriott but it seems like 55 dollars for the JW thru pricelime might be a thing of the past.

Jaybee:

I had to go $65 for Westin Grande for November. I am not a priceline expert though. I will post a trip report, but from my research, the Westin is very nice, closer to Soi Cowboy while not too far from NEP, close to the skytrain, and guestfriendly. Maybe give it a shot. I must say that I have heard only good things about the JWM (other than the decline of their steakhouse, which I was preiously planning on visiting).

Diddler,

I use Priceline USA. You can't specify a hotel, just an area (Shangri-La is Riverside/Silom). Check the bidding for travel website http://www.biddingfortravel.com to get an idea of what bids are being accepted at the moment.

When I book the Shangri-La, I usually will upgrade to a suite at check-in for an extra charge, with their Golden Circle membership.

Well, I finally got a bid to be accepted on Priceline. I ended up just booking my first two nights, got the Sheraton Grande Suk. for May 30 & 31 $65 dollars a night plus taxes. I think I am going to book the President Solitaire for the other nights.

I've been bidding on Priceline UK for the last couple of weeks and just got the Sheraton Grande Suk for 6 nights in June at Ģ40 ($70) per night plus charges. Quite happy about this as it's only a tenner a night more than the Novotel Lotus where the rooms are getting rather tired.

I got the JW Marriott earlier on this year for $55, but as others have pointed out on this thread those days seem to be over.

One thing, my Priceline confirmation specifically states the "Lc" Sheraton Grande. The planetholiday website lists this as a different hotel to the "regular" Sheraton Grande although they both share the same address and photos. However, the rates quoted for the Lc SG are higher.

Is there a difference?

Anyone know what it is?

So have I got the stalls or the upper circle?

Jaybee, like you I'll be staying in the President Solitaire for the remainder of my stay in BKK. I'd be interested in knowing what you think of both places.

TT,

My Priceline recept also says lc Sheraton Grande. I stayed there for the first time last month, also booked on Priceline, and they put me on the upper floors (Starwood preferred). Buy some music CDs, or bring some with you, the rooms include a stereo system. Their literature says you can borrow CDs from the 'library', but that's bull.

They have a great Sunday Buffet until 3 PM, I think it was about 1000, including drinks. Enjoy your stay, I'll be there one week from this Sunday.
