If I am not mistaken, Songkran takes place over different dates depending on where you are in Thailand, at least in terms of the three days of water "celebrations" (all-out-no-holds-barred-water-fights).
Last year my impression was that the celebrating started in Pattaya the day it ended in BKK, which means that with a bit of poor planning, you could have been wet and miserable for six days straight, instead of just the three that I suffered though in PTY. (One girl blasted me right in the eye with her water cannon, damn painful!; after I recovered, I took her home and initiated her anally. She proved to be one of the two real gems of that trip, so I guess it was worth the pain.)
One day is more than enough for me. But OMG do the Thais love this festival! BGs are always asking me if I am going to be there during Songkran, so that we can "play with water." And they ask me as if inviting me to a Christmas celebration where everyone has been promised a new Porsche... such is their unmitigated anticipation and excitement. It's quite charming, but I prefer to avoid Songkran if I can, no offense.
But for anyone who hasn't experienced it at least once, it is a must of course. Think of it as a kind of Thai hazing ritual.

Hi Jimmy,
I'll be there in June from California. The Town Lodge is great me and the little brown Mrs. have stayed there a couple of times before.
Also at the Grottino is superb. Both are great. I love the lounge (Toxic) and it's nice just to come in and hang out. The staff is great and the place is cheap, 1st class but the prices are very reasonable.
Anyway you'll enjoy your stay. There's great food all around too. I love Thai but there's 2 bakeries and coffee shop just up the road about a block. Plus there's that Swedish Garden place that's kind of interesting after you've gone native for a few weeks, can't remember the name. Great menu though Thai and Farang.
Anyway fairly close to the centers of action but also out of the way of the traffic. Have a great stay.

I think that Restaurant is called Admirals Pub, Ring The Bells took as there a few years back.
Great food and by memory is Danish owned just opp there is a great Massage place and Jimmy make sure when staying at Town Lodge check out the Titanium Club
Just take a walk and you will find plenty of things to do within 15mins.

You have gotten some good advice, and I sent you a PM, but man no worries...mine and the others suggestions cant be all be wrong, huh?
There are better deals to be had in BKK, but nobody is going wrong with TL.....trust me.....
You probably dont know this about me, but I lived there and have a thai wife and she even thinks TL is "good loom" so just book it and RTB will hook you up at night...
I prefer another hotel (way more money) but you cant go wrong with TL...
I have been on this website along time and know, as a newbie, just book it bro.....
If I am wrong slag my name here, but I know that will not be the case.....
You are about to bust your cherry...Bangkok will change your entire perspective on life.....
I dont know how old you are....but you are basically 16 upon arrival....
these guys can lead you in the right direction....
