Have read some conflicting posts on Tai-Pan, and I basically like everything about it, but my main concern is are they girl/guest friendly. I don't want any grief if I book a double, so I would like to hear from any forum member who has stayed there recently as there aren't any real solid up to date reports. My other choice is Royal President. Which of the two would you guys favour & why?

Do not know about those two. Will be staying again at the Swiss Grottino--nice side entrance. Now 1700 bht day. Very modern and good showers plus good lighting. Search the threads for any hotel.

I like Royal President a lot. Like Swiss G. too, but they are a bit overpriced now for what you get.

I stayed at Tai Pan several times because of its proximity to SC but always had trouble bringing company back to the room even though I had paid for a double. No complaints about the hotel itself, the food or the rooms but would say they are definitely not guest friendly!

I would definate4ly stay at the Royal President. In the time that I lived here 'part time' I used to live there, very nice eventhough it is showing its age a bit. The only good thing about Tai pan is the proximity to 'Elysium Spa and Massage', direct across the road... They have to be girl friendly. The amount of BG's I see walking in and out... more than actual guests.. Never stayed myself but non of the people I know have ever had problems with bringing BG's back. However, food is lousy at Tai Pan.

Hmm, might have been my aftershave then. When I checked in at Tai Pan they wanted to know name of the person who was the other half of the double room. They insisted on charging me a joiner fee even tho they agreed I had a double room. Eventually I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Looks like Tai-Pan is not what I'm after in that case.. dont need the hassles or aggrevation. Royal President looks the goods so far..

I was there in september and didn't have any problems. They will insist on id's at night but it wasn't an issue. They had a problem with me bringing a few friends into my room late at night and had to explain I was just showing my room to them and to give them something. I thought the rooms were pretty decent there. It's a little farther off of Sukhumvit for me considering I walk most of the time, but not bad.
