Left my hotel reservation too late and that is why I might be in the situation I will/need book the hotel in Bangkok....
Just wondering, if there is somekind of hotel booking central in the Don Muang Airport. And do you have experience concerning it...
I have used this kind of method in Beijing with good (low rates) results.

You find the counters, there is at least two of them, when You come out from the customs corridor to the arrival hall.
Take aim at the opposite wall, direction slightly left.
Have some names ready and ask prices, the chicks check the availabilty and You pay the first night to them.
They have catalogues of the hotels.
Up to you if You take the taxi upstairs or downstairs.
