Hi can anyone clarify if Welcome Plaza/Welcome Inn (Pattaya) is the same place? I read a post here which said nice pool good location and "walk in rate is 650 b" and the feature story on another site recomends this place at 650 b. HOWEVER the "special internet rate" on the Web site below is 850 b WTF? I don't want to use credit cards in Thailand so I don't see any way to lock in a cheap rate online before I get there. Can the "accomodation desk" at Don Muang get me a room there/is that the right way to approach this? Any and all suggestions welcome, F. http://www.hotelvisit.com/welcomplaza/

The link below is definately for the welcome plaza.

Yep, "Walk in rate" is 650B, as that is the price you'll get when you walk in the door at the hotel and negotiate the price with them driectly. If you choose to book via an agent (the website listed), they will charge a bit more, hence the 850B price on the website.

Not sure how good a price you'll get from the "accomodation desk" at Don Muang, as they tend to trap the new visitors that don't know where to look for hotels and they DO charge for that service. I used to always just go down and walk in and get the 650B a night. The only times they didn't have a room was over new years. So if you do have the time, just go down there, walk in and ask for a room. You can always book one night via the website, if you want to make sure. Oh.. and you'll need to book for two, as they do check if you have single occupancy booked. Price for two is 750B a night.

Ah so in this case "special" rate means HIGHER rate rather than lower. LOL ah well TIT eh? Thanks hugely for these details. Thanks for clarifying these points for me, F.

OK, it was a couple of years ago, but I had booked into this hotel and made a double reservation. I returned to the hotel about 1 am with my guest, and they demanded a joiner fee. I told them to stuff it and made them find their cashier at that time of the morning and checked out

They did try that with me too about 2 years go. I just told them that I had no problem paying the fee, once they refunded the difference between single and double occupancy. He then "uhhh and ahhh'd", looked at my booking, clearly showing as being for 2 people and said "Ok, you go" and we went up to the room. No more problems after.

Felix: Welcome Plaza and Welkom Inn are two separate hotels. Welcome Plaza is just off Second Road near Royal Garden Plaza Shopping Mall and is the one described by the guys above. Welkom Inn is located between Soi 2 and 3 between Beach Road and Second Road and is also known as the Belgian Embassy. It is generally a short time hotel but they have lots of single guys stay there. A good pool area but not a family oriented hotel. Definitely TG friendly.

Welkom Inn (Belg Embassy) was once described as "a pure sanuker hotel". Right on. They have their own ST bar on site with some very dirty girls. Bonus: it opens around 11am should you need an eye-opener.

Thanks guys for the clarification. So the one closer to the action (and with the nice pool) is the Welkom Inn, yes? If I've got the right one now http://www.welkominnthailand.com/ says 700 b (close enough). So sounds ideal ("There is no additional charge if you should decide to share your room..." hmmm guess I'm not the first person who wants to know this - lol). Next question is can I just show up and errrr, "walk in" or would most people recommend to reserve a room in advance? I expect to stay there a week (unless anyone has tried the place and advises against it) so hope to get a good rate anyway. 1st or 2nd of May shouldn't be too busy, right? Breakfast buffet, anyone tried? NONsmoking rooms, anyone know? Thanks in advance, F.
