Hello my esteemed Forum members, Once again I must ask for your help. I am traveling to BKK in the early part of May and require a hotel that meets the following criteria: ( I apologize if this message seems redunant, however I'd apreciate an update) 1) High Speed internet access in room to support Voice over IP technology. Stable connection especially in the late evenings. 2) Located near the MRTA and pref. BTS. 3) Girl friendly. 4) Preferably has a phone line in room. 5) And of course, inexpensive. Cheers, LilDevil!

Hi, Good luck with your search. I have yet to find all of these things! Even the expensive hotels that boast high speed internet tend to be a disappointment as the speeds are not great and certainly not what we would call broadband at home. I have had 100kb and 200kb before, both called 'high speed'. They are okay for surfing webpages but still slow for downloads etc.

Hate to say it, but Park Hotel kind of fits the bill. 1150 baht/night Haven't seen rodents recently. Nor roaches. (It's only been about 2 weeks on the mice, though) High speed internet - NO. However, 6 baht flat rate on outbound, local phone calls, and I've had several successful VOIP calls using Yahoo Messenger over a 28.8 connection. Granted, if too much data gets queued up, it'll occasionally garble, but generally good. Go down to Robinsons and get yourself a KSC 7 day unlimited card (or the promo pack that has two of those - good until June) for 100 baht, dial out at 6 baht/call, and get a reasonable call with the occasional garble. The flip side of my statement is that any place with "high-speed internet," no matter how well it compares to the states, will likely be sufficient to run a decent VOIP call. If 28.8 isn't bad, how can 64k+ be any worse?

A couple options I found, none meet every requirement though. To get best of both worlds on BTS/MRTA requirement, suggest somewhere in Asok-Sukhumvit area. Westin Grande or Sheraton Grande - http://bangkoktonight.com/maps/sukhumvit.shtml + Next to Asok BTS/MRTA interchange (1 min walk) + H/S and dial-up Internet service, plus extra phone jacks + Girl friendly, yes for both - Over 100USD for standard room, might be able to find lower rates on Priceline.com Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok - http://hotel.rembrandtbkk.com./location.html + Vacinity of Asok BTS/MRTA interchange - "Internet connectivity" and phone jacks (H/S Internet??) - Girl friendly... probably (?) + Special Internet price of 50USD for standard room Tai Pan Hotel Bangkok - http://www.taipanhotel.com/map.html + Vacinity of Asok BTS/MRTA interchange (and Soi Cowboy!) + H/S Internet and phone jacks - Girl friendly... probably (?) - Less than 100USD for standard room Drop Inn Bangkok http://www.dropinnbangkok.com/main/modules.php?name=Dropinn&file=dropinn_map + Vacinity of Asok BTS/MRTA interchange - Phone jacks available, need to confirm if any Internet service (H/S or dial-up) - Girl friendly... probably (?) + 1400-2000THB for rooms incl breakfast Cheers, - B -

Centre Point / Petchaburi 15 High-Speed internet in every room. I use it specifically for my voIP (Vonage), and it works great. BTS station roughly 5 minutes walk away. Or take cab during low-traffic periods to Sukhumwit = 50 Baht. It's a serviced apartment, so GF. Never had any troubles. Has phone line in the room (interesting, are there hotels without phones?) I pay usually 1600-1700 Baht per night. Dr. von Quack!
