just arrived bangkok- and always stay 2 nights at the Montien in potpong- its not girl friendly, the gym sucks, but the buffets are unreal- and the folks treat you like a king-- so I always moved to the Landmark for 6 nights- but now after reading this area it was time to explore--please note: I always stay on exec floor as the free breakfast, drinks, and enough dishes in the evening to make a full dinner - is worth the up charge--- of the 3 other hotels I liked the new MAJESTIC GRANDE least- there seem to be only two elevators which were jammed (someone here said it was not built to be a hotel) - the pool area nice but the deck was too small and no where near enough chairs - to say nothing about no afternoon sun- the exec floor rooms are same as others but with 1000 baht upcharge- the gym was very basic- rooms small- bathrooms ok -early bird special 3700 baht plus 1000 for exec lounge next worst to me- and here is where you guys will kill me- was WESTIN -- the gym was better- pool area at least had sun but nothing great- exec lounge was nice- but the room was nothing fancy despite their "heavenly bed" quoted me$ 140 for exec floor next up list was my LANDMARK- nothing touches the gym- rooms on exec floors are nice ( lower end rooms are not) pool has sun- there is also tanning deck- the breakfast is very well done and the evening drinks and snacks are really all you need for dinner- price for exec room $112.00 next up list SHERATON GRANDE- really nice pool- lots of shrubs- early in morning you could swim laps- and gym was good sized with the little TVs on the jog machines- didnt like fact that exec lounge is on first floor- and if you pay extra- anyone in hotel can use it- the tile baths and glass showers were the best of anywhere- but they quoted me $190 bucks plus $35 dollars for exec lounge - they say they could do better but get the idea this is still most expensive Then most all around best was JW MARRIOTT- I 'm not a marriott fan- so this was quite a surprise- rooms were nice and good sized- exec floor lounge was large- pool while not as nice as sheraton was workable- and gym was second to landmark- they quoted me $194 but also said I could do better- I see some of you are getting it for nothing on priceline- and for that maybe id give up my exec floor-- thats my two cents regards greg

sando The JWM goes from 75$+ on Priceline, depending on the season. Could you not book through Priceline then pay to upgrade to executive when you check in at JWM?

that was the problem- I asked at front desk in march- they said priceline was fully paid in advance and could not be upgraded in any way- : (

First, there's no such thing as a solid "no upgrade" when it comes to hotels. If you really wanted it, slip the check-in clerk a couple of thousand baht and you'll get the upgrade. I've personally stopped caring about getting the suites unless I'm traveling with a companion.

Sandontoes, thanks for info/test of these hotels. I am changing to the Majestic Grande next time just to try it. Normally I stay at the Landmark, exec.floor, but especially at breakfast time that lounge is full! How about the location of Majestic Grande - long walk to Sukhumwit? Rooms of Majestic compared to Landmark?

Have stayed at Landmark every time but last trip went to Majestic Grande. MG is a nice hotel, brand new. It is a bit of a walk to Suk, 5 min. Landmarks location is hard to beat. Landmark has more ammenities and I guess would be regarded as a higher end hotel. MG is cheaper though, give it a try. I might go back a second time.

viking- the added walk to suk is nothing- its a bit farther from nana SKY TRAIN stop ( in fact I think its closer to stop before nana coming east ) and yes it is new- the rooms are clean and the non exec floor rooms at Landmark can be a bit long in the tooth but I still liked it least of the four- yes it was cheapest- BUT I just got back from EDINBURGH and compaired to hotel prices with english pound twice the dollar- we are talking a steal at any of them!!!!!!!
