Does anyone have any info about this place? It is relatively new on soi 20. Mostly importantly, is it girl friendly? Was recommended by Bangkok Bob's site. Thanks

Nice hotel. Still new and looks great from the outside. Rooms are OK but a bit more baht should have been spend there. Still good value for money and on a decent location. Is GF, at least that is what I have heard so far.

You know the inside of the rooms, you don't know whether it's girl friendly.... What's the story here

Hi Frank, I talked to you last summer about Ayutthaya. Instead I went to Sukhothai. I really enjoyed it, although I only stayed there for a night. You are the singer, correct? I usually stay on Soi 22, but wanted to try something different. Let me know. Thanks

The Drop Inn hotel in Suk 20 is new, clean, quiet and certainly guest friendly. I've been in there several times to eat in their restaurant. I've looked at the rooms and talked with the owner about the guest policy, although I've never stayed as an overnight guest. When I asked about guest policy, the Italian owner said, "Of course, of course, no problem - just tell us, okay?" In other words, just notify the registration desk. The rooms are clean and bright - but not luxurious. I generally stay in 3-4 star hotels, and would be perfectly comfortable staying at Drop Inn. The hotel is small, about 25 rooms. There is no swimming pool or any of the other facilities you'd expect in a larger hotel. The restaurant is small, about 7 tables, but quiet and clean. I've eaten Thai food there - tasty, but unremarkable. Prices are the same as for any indoor restaurant with air-conditioning. In order words, a plate of fried rice with chicken is around 80-90 baht. The room rates at Drop Inn are in line with other hotels in that class, but not any special bargain. Standard rooms are on the order of 1,400/night. Check their web site. I like the cleanliness and orderliness of Drop Inn. It it were in a somewhat different location, I would stay there. But I haven't. Here's why: The location is in a tiny, sub-soi near the mouth of Sukhumvit soi 20. This tiny sub-soi is really just a dark alley. I get depressed when I turn the corner into this alley. There is no view from any of the rooms. They all look out on the dismal, gray, filthy, walls of old buildings just 10 meters away. Soi 20 is an awkward location to go anywhere. It is walkable to Asoke where you find Cowboy, the Sky Train and the new subway. But it is not a pleasant or interesting walk. And you must cross over one of the main streets to get anywhere. There are only a few restaurants in Soi 20. After you've sampled those, then you are hiking over to Soi 22 or across Sukhumvit to soi 33. If Drop Inn were a bargain at, say, under 1,000 per night, I'd recommend it as a bargain. But it's not. If the location were in a more interesting area, then it would be an excellent, small, hotel, but that's not the case. Overall, you won't go wrong at Drop Inn, but you can do so much better in other hotels. http://www.dropinnbangkok.com/main/index.php

Excellent report Mr. Dave!! I thank you for your frank and honest description. How far of a walk is it to Soi 22? I have stayed at the Queens, Regency Park and the Admiral Suites last summer. I guess I am used to this area, although not that exciting, but things are available. I have always stayed away from the Nana Area as it is too hectic and congested. A cab or train can get one there easily. I prefer Soi Cowboy anyway. I will be only staying for two days on my way to the Philippines, then after the Philippines I return to Bangkok for five days. I have been to Chiang Mai, Issan, Sukhothai, Phuket and Pattaya. Do you have any suggestions? Last summer I spent too much time in Bangkok. I like beaches as I live in a semi-tropical spot, land of aloha. I do enjoy to be at less crowed beaches, but always having access to the female gender. Thanks again and I hope you can give me some suggestions for my 5 days in Thailand when I return from the Philippines.
