when our good friend Aristotl mentioned the better choice
would be the Peninsula
so how about it, men?
where would YOU want to shack up for a few days?

Peninsula for sure.
It's been awarded the worlds best Hotel so many times for good reasons.
I have stayed in a suite in the Peninsula and it honestly the best hotel I have stayed in.
Only slight problem is that it's on the "wrong side" of the river but they have a water taxi up to midnight.
Tried the Oriental as well but was very dissapointed.

Peninsula is a great hotel. Big problem is the location on the 'other' side of the Chao Praya and at the end of Sathorn.

shangrila is next to saphin taksin skytrain, right on the door step = easy to nana etc
is there a lot of price difference, and whats included? at shangrila exec suite u get airport transfers (merc), breakfast, laundry, broadband etc etc

that was the one thing that worries me about Peninsula
"wrong" side of river
traffic/transports is a big issue getting around the city
and shangri-la is just a skip to Saphan Taksin stop
so how long is the cab ride to Peninsula?
can you just drive over the bridge and you are there?
or did you have to go around somehow?

If you can afford the Peninsula, cabs are a non-issue for cost.
If you're worried about traffic, hop a cab to a Skytrain stop.
If you want some of the best service (butler, staff, bell, etc...) then the Peninsula is the choice.
If you want what I consider the absolute BEST spa experience in Bangkok, then it's definitely the Peninsula. I visit their spa even when I don't stay there. The technique is wonderful, the surrounding beautiful, the staff are well trained to keep quiet, and the equipment (heated pads, excellent choice of aromatherapy oils, stones, etc...) is in top shape.

Having said that, please keep in mind that the Peninsula will cramp your mongering style unless your girl can at least LOOK like a normal girl. The hotel isn't fond of people bring seriously down-market bargirls in.
