Have stayed in 6 different hotels and never lost anything in a hotel safe.  You should always keep a copy of traveler check #'s somewhere other than with the checks.

In general, I thinki hotel safes are pretty safe.  Still, your best security is to use your head (the one on your shoulders, since the other will prob be occupied).  If you are using traveler's cheques, keep a copy of their numbers somewhere.  Have a photcopy of your passport and carry that with you instead of the real deal, photocopy your flight info.  And don't bring any uneccessary crap with you.  Just more stuff to worry about / lose / have stolen.

My philosophy is to keep it simple - frees your mind from having to worry about those things and just lets you eno wherever it is you might be.

The best bet is to have a little pad lock and lock the safety box before you give it back to the clerk. That way no body but you has the key to the pad lock inside. I have never had any problems with anything going missing, even out of my room when I have left ladies alone in them.

There are ATM machines every where in BKK. So if you want extra safty, bring your atm card and don't bring too much travellers cheque. I would also suggest that you use your ATM cards at ATM machines rather than as a charge card.

And make sure you keep track of your charge card recipts, especially if it has the credit card # on it. A friend had his card duplicated in Thailand. The bank called him because all of a sudden while he was in BKK, his card had so many charges on it. And we knew it was not him and so did the bank. Since many happened at many different stores almost during the same time frame. Which would mean duplicate cards were floating around!!

I feel that hotel safes are reasonably safe - paticularly if they have automatic combination locks. I agree to photocopy important docs. and if you do have a key always put it somewhere physically difficult for a shorter thai girl to be able to reach. ATM cards are good as well and you may bring two and keep one in the safe.

U can trust on safe box just on big hotels. The the cheap ones don't take a chance,I heard many farangs find that some thing all or all of them where stolen.
Take the money under your pants, near your dick..it's the best safe on world...
