I am stuck at this place for a week on business. Is it guest friendly? How far is it from the action?

Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa, Bangkok is located on the west bank of the legendary Chao Phraya River adjacent to the Krungthep Bridge.

While you are there, make sure you check out the Oriental.
But to answer your questions: I'd say about 20/30 mins away from Suk depending on traffic. Most likely you will have no probs bringing in girls.

In the past, I have on occasion been booked by our corporate travel dept. into BKK hotels that weren't convenient for me from either a P4P or business angle. Usually, but not always, I was able to get the reservation changed if I could get the same rate at a Suk area hotel. I finally made a case to my boss that the Landmark was so much better from in terms of locations, convenience and business facilities that it has become the "first choice" for all the company's BKK hotel needs, rather than random hotels selected purely on the basis of which was offering a special deal at the time. If you visit BKK often, it's a tactic your might try for whatever hotel you prefer.

The Marriott Spa is my favourite hotel in Bangkok, really great place. As already mentioned it is across the river and there is nothing better than taking the hotel launch back to the hotel after a night in the town, if you have a girl with you she will be very impressed as the hotel comes into view lit up like a christmas cake.
As for distance, once you are across the river it is about 10 to 15 minutes on the Sky Train to the Suk area. No big deal.
As for guest friendly, I think you will be OK providing you have a double room booked of course.

Gentlemen, thanks for all of your timely assistance. I have been studying the various forums carefully so as not to bother you with repeat questions on Eden Club, various soapy massage locations, and the like. I will try and post some worthwhile field reports next month.

and remember.....you can always use any short time hotel
located at or very near any go go bar whether it be at NEP, soi cowboy or Patpong (which is the closest go go bar area from the river) and most go go bars have rooms on site for your convenience.....
