Hi there, I was at City Lodge a week ago and I'll be back there in a few days. Everything's fine, a competitive mid range place with joiners no problem, the receptionists may even have a joke with you about them. The restaurant looks very good and expensive. One of the best hotels near Soi Cowboy, and my preferred area in BKK; also has the edge on Honey hotel further down the road.

I stayed there a couple of years ago -I paid 1350.00 bhat for a superior room. You can rent an in-room safe.The rooms were getting faded. I wonder if they have renovated them ? The location is excellent. Can the last poster indicate what he was charged 2 weeks ago.

Sorry I can't quite remember actually but it was something like that, competative enough. I think a lot of mid-range hotels are getting slightly faded in bkk.

A friend of mine who lives & works in Thailand for over 10 years used to stay there all the time: friendly staff, great location, decent room. He travels for business & had used the hotel many, many times. Unfortunately on 1 stay someone, somehow stole about 400USD from the RECEPTION SAFETY BOX (he was told by staff it was safer than inroom).
He reported it to AMARI Group which City lodge is subsidary. He told them he knew he would not get his money back but tat something should beone to avoid this happening again. After a lot of emails, the consclusion was "impossiblle, too bad, tell your story walking".
He has & I am. Nice place but caution. Look under this category, "Theft from safety Box" for full details

Yeah, the safes are not 100% secure.
Queen Victoria in Pattaya Soi 6, last year..... someone on staff got $500 from my IN ROOM safe.
Manager just looked at me and said..... so whaddaya what me to do ? He is no longer there but his attitude really ticked me off.

Well - I have now for unlucky circumstances had to spend a couple of nights at City Lodge on Suk Soi 19. (my reg place was full and I just had to land in Bkk with a very short notice.)
Sometimes there are things that make you hate Thailand and Thai people. Even if I 99% of the time never feel like that! If you want to experience the feeling though - why not try out this pc of shit hotel!! The attitude - the staff, the shabby interior and the pricing policy is guaranteed to ruin your day and make the horns on your forehead grow out!
I have stayed at more hotels than I can bother to remember in Thailand and almost always have been a happy customer. However it seems inevidable that one MUST run the head into to concrete once in a while. Now it was my turn at this crap place. So experience does not always help!
Wont go into all the tiring details - just listen to a good advice - walk by this dump and choose somthing else of the gazziliions of places available in our fav town!

I stayed at the City Lodge Soi 19 last fall....
I thought it was a clean good place. The price seemed a little expensive but nice. It is GF and they take ID cards. I would stay there again since my experience was good.
I usually prefer the Swiss Grottino and think that is a nicer place, but they have also increased their prices too much.

the beds at Fortuna (soi5) is similar to City Lodge but room is bigger, price cheaper too. (no safe)
or try Majestic Suites, room smaller but bed/bathroom is newer and staff is friendly w/security. (in-room safe)
just my 2 baht worth
if all else fails. Use the FORCE!

Just stayed at CL19, booked on Amari site, book before 5 day rate, about 2100++ for deluxe room.
My room was on the 7th floor, pretty good, plenty of bathroom comps.
TV only 9 channels and some of those had poor signals.
My only complaint would be quite noisy from the Suk, especially Tuk Tuks bombing up and down.
GF, took ID which is OK by me.
I tried to book Honey but they did not answer my e-mail, maybe I will try Honey again before CL because of the rates.
The premium hotels now seem to offer less deals, even on priceline.
