Will be a with a couple people on their first trip in September. The Manhattan is actually ok for the price, just looking to upgrade a bit. Was thinking maybe 2500 a night, may need to go more to get something with the 5 star feel. Sukhumvit works, but as long as it's near the skytrain that works. Ideas?

Here's an idea. The jump from 1000 baht a night to 2500 is rather gargantuan. For example the Grand President is 1500 a night but the place is a dump. Bel-Aire Princess runs 1700 I think. Possibly a tad nicer than Manhattan but not huge. Stop to think how much you are going to be in the room. I'm thinking for 2500 you get Landmark & JW Marriott. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 20 years ago I would have told my family members to stay at the Ambassador. 10 years ago I would have told them to stay at the Dynasty. Today I would tell them to stay at Manhattan. Provided you can get a king size bed this is one of the great values in lodging. The reason the prices are low is because of alledged "construction noise" Once that construction is completed BELIEVE me the prices are going to go up. Landmark (2000) WRONG !!!! 3240 a night as sent to you in a PM. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Sanook is an expert on the Federal - he says "never again" ditto Brocher knows the Honey Hotel. These were our old stomping grounds when I first started coming here 30 years ago. Dumps now. I'm think we shoud turn Evil Penivel loose on a series of Expose` on the Nana. Not the coffee shop but the rooms this time.

If we could get the Landmark for 2500 that would work. I'm seeing way higher prices for the landmark. Also looking at the Majestic Grande.

If your travel dates are cast in stone then I would recommend going to priceline.com and bidding on the 5 Stars on the Sukh. Last several trips I got Marriott on the low at 61 and had to bid as much as 75 and got the Sheraton. It's a roll of the dice as to which 5 Star you might get.

Doubt it is realistic to expect the Landmark for 2,500B. However, try sending an email stating you can't pay more than 2,500B/night and ask if they have anything at all in that price range. Sometimes, not often, but sometimes, hotel managers will compromise on price to keep up the room occupancy level. They are not really losing anything by renting out a room that would otherwise be empty and a higher rate of occupancy looks better on their performance reviews. But you have to accept that whatever the least attractive room at the Landmark is, you'll be getting it.

The Majestic Grand seems a good choice for about 2400bhat incl tax and breakfast, it is near the JW Marriott and its a new hotel (so rooms are new not run down). It gives you a feel of a 5 star hotel, although it is rated at 4 stars. I would go with that to impress your guests for their first time in BKK. The above price was stated at asiarooms.com, I saw they asked more before so I guess it is a good price. Landmark, JW Marriott, Westin, etc will not go for this rate. Hard to think managers will agree to lower the price since it is not common in 5 stars to hurt their market (its not a small ma and pa business you know, you could be a travel agent pretending to check prices to see how lower will they go when they made an agreement to sell you a block of rooms at absolute minimum - so don't think emailing to a 5 star hotel will work unless you stay really a long time such as months etc,.). You can try bidding on priceline, for a 5 starts suk location, will probably get the Marriott or Westin, which are good too, but don't think it will be at 2500 bhat INCLUDING taxes and FEE priceline charges. I found this price (US$63 for double) at asiarooms.com see: http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/bangkok/majestic_grande.html

I was recently able to book the Westin Grand Sukhumvit in late December for $70 + Tax & fee on priceline.com. Not sure if this suits your needs.

Tend to agree with apollo that evil's idea might not work. Here is a variation. Depending on what time of year it is (Nov to March forget it) try& get a complimentary upgrade. Ask to speak to the guest relations officer & tell them you love the hotel etc. & that you would be willing to recommed it to all your friends & is it ever possible to get an free upgrade. If they say no try somewhere else. Good Luck
