I will be in Thailand from Sep 3-Sep 12. I have booked Manhattan from Sep 3- Sep 7. Planning to go to Pattaya on 7. Do I need to book hotel in advance for Pattya and the rest of my stay? I don't know exactly when I will be back from Pattya (definitely before 12). September being a slow month, is there any problem if I don't book it in advance?

There are a couple of plans of attack.

1. Being low season, there will be a room somewhere that is available. Just rocking up to a place is hit or miss and then depending on your knowledge of hotel rates as to whether you can get a 'good rate'.

2. If you don't have a list of alternative hotels to try (and know where they are located), book for a few nights at one hotel in advance and look around - that way you have somewhere to land when you hit Pattaya.

3. If you know the hotel you want to stay at, why not just book it. Give them your dates and tell them you may have to leave a day or two earlier depending on business (or whatever excuse you want to give). Once they confirm no problem with that "proviso", confirm your dates. If you are booking with one of the online accommodation places, then you would have to book the lesser days and extend.

In summary to your question "is there any problem if I don't book it in advance?" - The answer is no (if you know what you are doing). The worse that will happen is that you may pay a higher rate then what you could have got. If you want to do some research on hotels in Pattaya, check out the Pattaya Section.

Cheers

I am also going to BKK September 10th and will be staying for about 10 days.
Since, September is low season you don't need to book a hotel for pattaya and there are really plenty of hotels so you can just walk in a hotel which you think good and ask room avaiable?
Personally, I like hotels in soi 8, but somewaht noisy becasue the beer bars in soi 8 never sleeps and apex hotel in pattaya second road. There are still many hotels so don't worry just go.

If you know which hotels you want to stay at, book in advance if they don't have a cancellation fee or you don't have to give them a credit card number. That way you are guaranteed the cheapest rate rather than negotiating when you get there. One hotel I liked recently was Sawadee Pattaya on moo 10 or something like that. 2,800 baht for 7 days, modern hotel, gf, basic rooms, walking distance to Soi 8, close to other beer bars and 2nd road, and quiet at night. The only negative is the shower and bathroom are the same, so you use the hand shower thing. If you want more info, send me a pm.

I suggest trying the Residence Garden. They are one bedroom suites with a TV in the bedroom and the living room. All for about 1300 bt night. You can get this room rate from the Pattaya-at-night.com website from the FLBbar link. You do not need a CC or deposit. They ask you to cancel if a no show.

Completely Girl friendly, nice pool and a three minute BBus ride to walking street--and quiet. PM if any questions--but the PAN website also has a good listing of other hotels. Go to Int cafe and book in BKK if you cannot commit.
