I'm planning to go to LOS in Nov and will venture up north for the first time. Could anyone recommend a decent hotel in CM/CR to me. My budget would be somewhere around THB 1000/night, give or take a few hundred bahts :D and of course guest friendly too 
Btw, how far is CR from CM?

In Chiang Mai I always favour the Downtown Inn. It's gf and near the night market. Clean and friendly with a decent enough breakfast thrown in.
On Chiang Rai I like the Wiang. Central and good value.

depends where they put you they have an annex which I can trember if its better or worse
when I amin chang mai I stay in the rydges hotel opposite sompet market
its a bit more than your budgjet
i pay 1000 bhat but I am a repeat customer
the breakfast itself is worth at least 400 bhat

It's not really close to anything, but it sure beats some of those shitty looking hotels right near the night market. I mean, damn, some of them looked bad. Even though they were packed I was thinking to myself, how can you people sit down on those disgusting looking chairs that have so many stains you can't even tell what the original color was. Anyway, you can take the 3-wheeler to anywhere you wanna go from the Embassy for cheap or just walk to the night market if that's your thing. Nice place. A couple of the massage girls at the two parlors next door like to play hard to get, so if that's your thing you can have a fun time trying to get them to give it up. If not, then just go for the one who stops you on the street and you're sure to get some from her.

In chang Rai,its hard to pass up the "'NIM SEE SENG HOTEL'' 66-53201645 ITS got great girls downstairs at night at the sing song...rooms are half as expensive as south for that quality, so 600 baht gets you a VIP room.
Thats really well decked out. Theres a resturant on the roof.
Massages are 300 baht for 2 hours.
The door man arranges (pips) uni girls also and has photos to pre choose from.
It has great cable selection.
And theres beer bars and a few go gos near by. The staff are well dressed young woman who are a treat very happy and friendly to speak with.
Its really a place that I recommend well.
Try big C mall at the beer hall for uni girls That will meet after work for 1000 baht.
Its downstairs next to food hall.
While in chang mai I always like the Chang mai plaza for 1000 baht a night its 4 stars.
